Question about HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One - multifunction fax / copier / printer / scanner color

Open Question

How do I get to the INSIDE of the scanner glass to clean a speck off it?

On the Photosmart 4780 it was a bit of a pain but very, very do-able. (Got the detailed instructions either here or at iFixit.) On this one...oy! Any one have a guide to the many joints and junctures?? Or, better yet, since it's seems to be just static that attracted a few specks of some unknown composition from the inside, any ideas on how to reverse this (i.e. repel the specks back off the glass down to where it's invisible to the scanning bulb)? I toyed with the idea of a brief, low output from a small, handheld Tesla coil (don't ask why I have this) but am afraid of messing up something else in there, like the pacemaker. Can't be TOO tough, but I don't think HP would want us knowing how to open it up. Their lawyers would have a cow!

There is a black dotted line whenever I make copies on the cannon imagerunner 400s

It's either a speck on the scanner glass for the document feeder, or a smear of toner on one of the rollers. Check the skinny band of glass inside the document feeder for specks and clean it with a lint-free soft cloth and a little rubbing alcohol or a very little bit of water.

How do I get rid of the line running down the scanned document?

Simple, clean the ADF glass that the paper passes over during a scan (not the flatbed glass itself, just the thin strip of glass at the head of the flatbed glass). A speck of dirt on the glass will appear as a line down the length of the paper.

When I scan a photo, my Brookstone IConvert photo scanner has white lines all over the pictures.

The reason it has white lines is because the glass is dirty in the inside. If it has one speck of anything inside the scanner it turns into a line because it stays in that one place as the picture slides over it. So that line is actually a dot that is covering the picture throughout the scan. The solutions don't work. I don't suggest taking yours apart. I took mine apart and cleaned the glass. The pictures scanned fine and then the lines show up again. The real solution is to get your money back if you can. It will do this over and over. It's a design flaw in the scanner. The picture is actually squeezed as it it scanned. As pictures are squeezed against the glass... residue builds no matter how clean your pictures are.

ADF give shows a verticle line??

If you open the adf there is a small strip of glass on the left hand side next to the large glass. If there is a even a tiny speck on that little strip of glass it will cause a line when using the adf. Just clean it with a little bit of alcohol.

Streaks on prints

Lines/streaks at the same location indicate either a speck of dust stuck on the glass or the glass may be scratched.

Cleaning scanner glass

This solution is for the HP 3310 all-in-one.
How to clean under the glass.
1. Find the small wire that runs from the lid to a jack on the back and disconnect it, un-clip the wire from the holders and let it hang free.
2. Lift the lid and pull it straight up about 3/4 of an inch, you will see two indents in the hinge, push these one at a time to release the lid. Remove it completely.
3. 3 screws are located under the hinge, remove them as well as the two in the front.
4. In the back, gently pull on the silver end pieces to release the top from the unit.
5. You can now turn it over to clean the glass.
6. to reinstall reverse the steps and remember to plug the jack back in.
That's it, easy when you know how. Pay HP service nothing!
