I had this problem, turned out the cable between the lid and the main chassis of the scanner had pulled out slightly. Plug it in and problem solved.

Make sure the transparency light cable that comes from the lid is plugged in to the back of the scanner. If the cable is unplugged for any reason, the transparency/film options will not be available.

I just had the same problem, turned out my FAU cable was not properly connected. Ensure that the cable is all the way inserted at the back of your printer, and connect the device to your computer. I hope this will work for you too:)
