There is a software that comes preloaded with dell called Synaptics Pointing Software .See to that it is installed.From the software enable the required scrolling mode.by moving your finger up and down slightly pressed along the right most areas of the touch pad allows vertical scrolling while moving the finger horizontally at the bottom side of the touch pad allows horizontal scrolling.Also see to that the synaptics software is enabled at startup

Go to the Dell website and make sure the drivers are installed for your laptop. There is a support page where you can enter the type of computer you have. Do that and it will bring you to a page of drivers. Look for the drivers for audio and microphone and save them to your computer. Then install. Hope this helps.

Hook a spare monitor to the video output usually on the back, if okay! the inverter board just below the screen is the likely problem, or the backlight behind the display is faulty, but if both have the same symptom it is the video graphics card normally built into the motherboard.
