SOURCE: thread tangles around shuttle

Either the thread is not in the take up lever or it is not in the tension. Rethread the machine. Raise the presser foot and pull on the thread between the tension and take up. It should be loose. Lower the presser foot, pull on the thread between the tension and take up lever. It should be tighter. Make sure the thread is in the slot of the take up lever and pulled to the front of the lever.

SOURCE: bottom thread too loose; tried

Check for correct bottom thread tension.
It's provided by a flat spring on the bobbin holder.
When the bobbin is correctly installed, pulling on the thread
should meet with slight resistance, and the bobbin should spin without
trying to jump out of the bobbin holder.

SOURCE: Needle won't pick up bobbin thread. Has been

Most of the time it is because the needle was inserted with the flat side facing you instead of away from you. And for the heck of it, put in a different needle, there may have been a burr or some defect on your new needle. Other than that, it could be your timing.

SOURCE: singer advance 7422....won't pick

It sounds like your timing is in need of adjustment and unfortunately you need special tools and know how. So, you have to take it in for service.

Safety device has been activated and dont see anything wrong

First thing, install a brand new needle.

Next, remove all the thread. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning making sure it follows the correct pathway.

Rethread the bobbin case making sure the thread is in the bobbin tension and that the bobbin turns the correct direction in the bobbin case.

Clean away any thread and lint debris around and under the feed dogs and in the bobbin area.

Oil the machine with fresh, good quality sewing machine oil as instructed in the owner's manual. Do NOT use 3-in-1, WD-40, cooking oil, or the old smelly stuff in the oil tin from Grandma's sewing basket.

Turn the machine off for a few minutes and then turn it back on.

If it still has an error code, you should probably take it for service.

Bobbin thread tangled

Try these suggestions and see if they help
1. Change the needle--use a needle that's for the fabric being sewed
2. Rethread the machine--top --make sure to use every thread guide
3. try a different bobbin--make sure bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case, & make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way in the bobbin case
4. make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
5. Clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or threads
6. Check to make sure the bobbin is not warped or damaged
7. Make sure the bobbin case is correctly in the machine,, if it's a top loading bobbin you may need to have the bobbin case checked to see if it's damaged or see if the hook and hook race has a problem
8. Also could be a timing problem, and the machine would need to be checked.

Bobbin thread tangles

when this happens have you check to see if the thread has come off the thread take up lever?

I am sewing scout badges on a uniform and when I sew there is a bunch of needle thread bunched up on the bottom (the top looks fine). And the needle thread gets all caught up around the bobbin.

Clean out the bobbin area if there are any thread tangles there.

Refer to the maintenance section of the manual - see the configuration of the bobbin case and shuttle race? The bobbin case as an extending arm and the race a notch. When inserting the bobbin case into the shuttle, turn the handwheel so the needle is at it's highest position. Then lift the lever on the back of the bobbin case and insert the cast into the shuttle, arm pointing straight up toward the bed of the sewing machine.

Now thread the machine with the presser foot up - always - and see if the tangling stops.

When you forget to lift the presser foot before threading the machine, the tension control does not open to capture the thread. Then when you begin to sew, the top thread has no tension, and the bobbin thread, which does have tension, pulls the top thread to the bottom in messy loops.

Jammed thread.

To address my needle thread tangling (horribly) in the bobbin compartment, I rethreaded the bobbin. I cleaned the bobbin and the feeder feet, I changed the bobbin and the thread. I changed the tension on the needle thread and the bobbin thread. NO FIX! Then, I changed the needle - the problem was fixed instantly. I sewed awhile and then put the original needle back in. No problem. I think perhaps that the problem is being caused by the needle getting out of alignment somehow during sewing. If you are having the same issue, try it. It can't hurt!
