I need the compressor to run for a longer period of time. what do I do? Does the defrost timer has anything to do with it

Yes, when the defrost cycle is running the compressor isn't. Defrost timer should run a defrost cycle twice a day. Interval is 12 hours, defrost usually takes 20 to 30 minutes. Some cycle the compressor backwards slowly to warm the evaporator and melt the frost faster. I had a commercial walk in freezer that defrosted every 2 hours and had an evaporator heater element. The timer switches off the compressor and turns on the heater.

Why is my timer runnung backwards

Timer is not identified.
Analog timers have clock motor.
If the gears strip out, then timer can run backwards.
Some timers have replaceable clock motors, such as Intermatic and Tork box timers, and pool timers.
While small plug in timers generally do not have replacement parts.

I have an Intermatic T104R timer set up for my pool pump. It seems that the clock is running backwards. Why is that?

If dial is not rotating clockwise and keeping correct time on 240Volt T104 timer, then WG1573 clock motor is probably bad.

Can a 240 Intermatic timer run backwards? If so, wouldn.t exchanging the poles fix it?

No and no...
if it is running backwards there is no fixing it...the motor is bad and you will need a new one...

Turned timer dial counter clockwise and now dryer will not start. However when on a cycle it sounds like a timer is running. When the timer dial is turned to off position or door is opened it stops. Is...

The contact's which run along the timer "cam" inside the timer casing are likely bent or out of place as a result of it being turned backward's. The timer "motor" may itself be fine, and likely is. However, the damage to the contact's is usually something of a non-serviceable matter, ( unless you know a local appliance "shop" which deals in used part's and may be capable of opening up the timer and repairing for you. In our appliance shop years ago...before Sears employment...we were successful with this more often then not ). you will likely need a new timer unfortunately.

Hope that help's move you forward if nothing else.

Good luck,

macmarkus :)

Our intermatic pool pump timer is brand new and is running backward. we bought a second timer and it is also running backward. We had an electrician come out and he can't figure it out either.

You need to check the line voltage being supplied to the timer. It is possible that you have a reversed neutral and common (hot) line providing power to the timer. It is also possible to have another reverse situation with the way the timer is hooked up to the device it is controlling.

Timer motors should only operate in one direction, but if mis-wired, they can operate backwards.

I would need more information about the exact installation you have in order to provide a more thorough diagnois and solution. Info such as is this a 220V-AC installation; is the timer hooked to more than one (1) device (pump, etc.) ; Is there a GFCI breaker on this circuit (there should be!) ; Is this a new installation or a refurbished pool with a new pump & timer?

Please use the "comment" button to supply me with the info requested so I can better address your issue.

Kenmore Electric Dryer..Timer runs backwards only sometimes.

Probablyl the timer motor. Synchonosous motors that run these timers have a internal part that insure they always start the same direction.
