Peugeot 407 3L automatic do not start

Try turning steering wheel some each way while trying to turn key, pressure from steering may not be allowing it to unlock to let key turn. Other cars sometimes do that, if the locking wheel is gear you are talking about.

the problem you do have is by the automatic transmission, gear lever there is a safety catcher for holding the gear stick.On applying you brakes by pressing the brake pedal don you must hear a slight click noise and either release the gear lever to go to pa king or to any other selected gear.

If it is coming from the passenger side it could be the servo opening the fresh air flap - or possibly not opening it if the gear on the servo has broken which could be the reason for the clicking sound.

Double check your battery connections. If the battery is new and the starter makes a series of clicking noises when the key is held in the start position than you are not getting a good power supply to the starter or there is not a sufficient ground.

Buy yourself a new serpentine belt - its slipping on the alternator and the battery isn't getting enough charge.

If yours is an automatic the damage to the shifter may be preventing the car from starting - If the car thinks that it is in any gear other than P, it may not start.

You've got to assume that the trans oil change is unrelated. With the key in the run position see if the wipers work, if not the battery is dead. Otherwise, try rocking the car back and forth while in park and then hope for a miracle. If all fails, get out the volt meter and start measuring voltages at the starter and the power pack (coil).

the shifter has a park neutral lock out device.
it will not shift out ( see left side of console for hidden cover, move lever inside for emergancy shifting)
until you start motor, step on the brake and then the solenoid in the shifter box
unlocks the shifter.

but that is not the problem.

back up.
car will not start or the car will not crank.

turn key ,nothing happens.
turn key , just hear starter solenoid click
turn key , motor cranks, grrrrrrrrrrrrrr, but will not start.

which is it.?

MY guess would be that it's the starter, with an automatic transmission, if the car is not in park or neutral, the car wont even attempt to start, so the clicking sound you say you hear rules that out. Now, im not an "expert" or anything just a guy with some general knowlege, so before you do anything i would recommend having it looked at, but if you feel confident enough, the starter is where i would begin, hope this helps, and good luck.

Maybe its the sensor that senses whether the car is in Neutral/Park perhaps?
