SOURCE: How do I remove the cabinet on a Kenmore Model 11022882101 top loading washer?

You need to remove 2 screws in console. They might be in back, on ends or in front ends. If you can't see any, they are under the console end caps. To remove end caps, pry off by pulling caps towards outside from center part of cap. Pry toward you and towards outside. Then remove 2 screws and flip console up and back. Unplug connector to washer cabinet. Remove 2 gold colored clips by inserting straight screwdriver in them and prying back. Make not of their position first. Now tilt cabinet toward you and slide forward and off base.
To replace, tilt cabinet and slide under frame in front. Now lower cabinet on to frame, making sure cabinet is on frame on sides. Re-install clips by placing them in position and pushing down with palm of hand. Plug in connector, lower console and install screws.

Remove 2 screws that hold the console in place. Most are at the rear corners of the console. Pull console forward and up and tilt back. There are 2 brass clips holding the cabinet in place. then the cabinet can be removed by tilting forward and away from base. there is no reason to remove the lid.

How do you open the washer to access the lid switch on a model 22422 Kenmore machine?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

How do you detach the front cover or the top cover to the washer. It won't drain and I am in the process of removing the lid switch first to see if this is the case. How do you properly remove the lid...

See the following illustrated description:

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=0da65cea0e338fe930b1fde153a243f0

Basically, on most top load, direct drive washers you pop the end caps off of the console and should see a screw under each cap location. Remove the screws and pull the console toward you and tilt up.

You should see the connection from the console to the cabinet for the Lid Switch. Before assuming that it is the switch, I'd jump the two outer connections with a short piece of insulated wire and plug the washer back in. If it works, the switch is the problem.

The cabinet simply pulls toward you and off.

See the following Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual with diagnostics and a description of how to jump the switch.

Look at the diagrams for the cabinet and you'll see a list of component parts (Lid Switch) with the Sears part numbers (the manufacturer authorized substitute numbers are Whirlpool) and the Sears price.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Go to the section on the Sears site for the Top and Cabinet parts and you should see #11 Lid Switch.

See the following on how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

If you un-plug the washer and pop off the end caps, you should see a screw under each endcap.

Remove the screws and the console should tilt backward. Unplug the lid switch from the console.

Using a screwdriver, snap off the clips holding the cabinet on, tilt it forward and it should come.

You should have access to the lid switch with the cabinet off and the console tilted backward.

How to replace kenmore elite washer model 110 16962503 lid switch

Hi,

Let me offer you a generic solution for most of the Kenmore washers :-

There are 2 screws that secure the console to the cabinet top. The are located in the front or rear corners, and on a Kenmore, may be hidden behind the end caps. Remove the screws, and tilt the cabinet backwards. Remove the 2 gold clips, and disconnect the wiring harness. Tilt the cabinet forward, and off of the base. The lid switch can now be accessed from inside the cabinet (I sit inside).

Hope i helped you.

Thanks.

Removing the top of a Kenmore Elite Oasis Washer to replace hose

#
1

Disconnect your Kenmore Oasis washing machine from its power source. Make sure that your washer is unplugged before beginning to disassemble it.
#
2

Remove the screws that hold the control console to the top of your Oasis washer. In some Kenmore Oasis models, the two screws may be covered by plastic end caps. After removing the screws, set them aside until you are ready to replace them.
#
3

Flip the console up, back and out of the way.
4

Locate the cabinet clips on the top of your Kenmore Oasis washer. These clips are located toward the back of the washer top and would be hidden by the console if it were not currently flipped up.
#
5

Slide your screwdriver underneath the metal cabinet clips. Wiggle the screwdriver back and forth to gently pry the cabinet clips free.
#
6

Disconnect the group of colored wires that plug into the top of the washer from the control console. These wires control the lid switch on your Kenmore washing machine. To disconnect, grasp the white plastic clip and pull gently.
#
7

Remove the washing machine cabinet. Tilt the cabinet towards you, and then lift the entire cabinet up and off of its platform.
