Question about Sony KP-51WS510 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Green color on my sony tv is not projecting right.

The green color on the screen seems to be a bit higher then the others. The bright green volume when I change the volume is round at the ends instead of being a stright line of green.

I found out about the convergence section on my tv. I tryed the auto focus on the Tv but nothing changed. I can move the blue and red to match the green in most of the areas but in the middle. It won't let me move it all the way to match up with the green. I can move it just like half an inch up and down and left and right. It stops after a bit so I can't match up the colors. Does that mean I need to replace the convergence chip? I am guessing so.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Sony wega KSD-R60XBR1 green screen that can not be adjusted no matter what input is used or adjustment through onscreen tv options. how do i knw if it is the color wheel, light engine, or just a bulb

Hi,
It is light engine problem in your Sony KDS-R60XBR2 lcd rear projection tv.
This tv does not have any color wheel because of its light engine technology.
Lamp is just light source that provides bright white light to light engine and its working properly.
Light engine will be replaced to fix green screen problem.

If you tv model is other than above mentioned, let me know to revise this answer.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Screen dim, black has green in it, contrast and brightness = shin

Since you have replaced the Color Wheel, it sounds like you have not adjusted the Index Delay in the service menu. First reset all of the picture settings you have adjusted back to original factory settings. Then on your Samsung TV Remote and with the TV OFF, Press Mute,Power,123. This will turn on the set and put you in the Service menu. Look for the top setting and select or scroll to the OPTION setting and select and look for INDEX DELAY and select that. Once you have the Index Delay selected use the right and left buttons on the remote to adjust for a picture the has no abnormal coloring and while looking at a program adjust for when the blacks look black with no abnormal coloring. Once that is done, turn off the set then turn the set back on. Now the picture should look normal.

The tv picture looks like should be wachting it whith 3d glasse

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets. Its called a convergence failure. Here are some common symptoms.
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
The other common problem is cloudy lens fluid. After many years the coolant in the blue and green lens will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, bright white, etc. You may even see halos around objects on the screen.

You can see some example photos and find a solution here on Fixya.

Sounds like a convergence issue. Call Sony for an ASC that can come out and give you an estimate. You are probably looking at $200-400 to do the repair.
