I purchased the set in 2000 so it is seven years old. This is the first problem. Could it be all three of the bulbs? Could it be all three of the bulbs? no as you say that sound is ok that means your power supply &high voltage section is ok. please check chroma ic luminance section or system control section stand by ckt ihanks

SOURCE: No picture, hear sound, television will shut off after a few seconds.

Take out the bulb (back left hatch door) look to see if the element inside the bulb is broken or blackened - (replace bulb) if the bulb looks OK then it's the ballast that fires the bulb (service call).

"quadratic function" diophantus , a greek

Let x be Diophantus' age when he died.

His son died 4 years before Diophantus (so Diophantus was then x-4 years old). His son lived half as long as Diophantus so when he (son) died he was x/2.
Diophantus' son was born when Diophantus was (x-4)-x/2 years old. That was 5 years after his marriage so when Diophantus married he was (x-4)-x/2-5 years old. We also know that 1/6 of his life was spent in childhood, 1/12 in youth and 1/7 as bachelor so (x-4)-x/2-5=(1/6+1/12+1/7)x.
Now you solve last equation:
  • x-4-x/2-5=11/28x
  • x/2-11/28x=4+5
  • 3/28x=9
  • x=9*28/3=84 years

Diophantus was 84 years old when he died.

We have 2 Nos Philips Rear Projection TV Sets procured in year 2004. I would like to confirm the effective useful life of these tvs as I am facing problems like convergence. Is there any aging effect on...

These tv's have an expected life of 8 years at normal usage so your tv's are starting to show signs of old age.
Yes, the failure of the power circuits in the convergence board are a common occurrence in tv's of that age. So common that other companies have started to put together refurbishment/repair kits for them. This is the one for this tv - Philips 60PP9363

"my samsung lns4051dx xaa powers on and the audio works, but the screen doesnt come on. please help "my samsung lns4051dx xaa powers on and the audio works, but the screen doesnt come on. please help

It can be T-CON board, 24vdc power supply, backlight inverter board, main board.
First, look at the screen in darkened room to see if you can see any slight glow from the screen, if it does, then the problem can be the T-CON (not getting the 12vdc) or the main logic board not feeding the signals to the T-CON board.
if not, next place to check will be the power supply module, make sure it has 24vdc which is required by the backlight inverter to work, the reason for not having 24vdc can be from bad DC filter caps (leaking/bulging top, high ESR) or short circuits in the inverter board which will cause the 24vdc supply to go into shutdown mode, so you may have to disconnect the power cable that feed the inverter board to see if the 24vdc will work without the inverter board hookup, you will need to apply about 3~4 amp of load to the 24vdc to make sure it can handle that. There are fuses on the backlight inverter boards also. So there is some troubleshooting you will have to do to find out the causes of the problem you are having.

The Tv sounds as if it wants to power up, the red light comes on, then it clicks and shuts off. What is the problem with my LNS4051DX XAA

Most likely failed capacitors in the power supply. I am currently having the same problem with my 26 month old Samsung LN46A750. Samsung has agreed to fix this as an out of warranty "courtesy repair".

Error message: check connections or power-the connections for RGBHV or YPrPb may be invalid. The screen is a two tone blue and is flashing.

DO NOT do anything to your Mitsubishi WD-52525 until you read this forum overseen by a Mitsubishi certified repair technician: http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/mitsubishi/11703-problem-mitsubishi-wd-52525-scrambled-picture-no-picture-2.html . There has been a worldwide problem in computers and TVs over the past several years with faulty electrolytic capacitors (from Taiwan) that decay, dry out, swell and die. The power supply is often the first component to go bad, but other systems also degrade over time. As the forum explains , this problem is widespread in these sets causing multiple types of display problems after several years of use. Mitsubishi is aware of the problem and will cover most of the cost of repairing the chassis, even years out of warranty, but apparently ONLY if you get an estimate from a Mitsubishi certified repair station and contact their customer support BEFORE doing any work on the set. I just followed the recommended procedure on that forum and Mitsubishi is covering half the cost of my $700+ repair when my 3+ year-old set recently died and showed only a blue screen. I'm not sure if this is your problem, but it might be.

Sony KV-32FS120 dead

It is impossible to guess at the parts without actaully troubleshooting the set with the proper setup.

From past experience, the areas that the fault for this normaly is, are the horizontal output ampliifer, main power supply, and sometimes there may be a problem with the vertical deflection amp.

In the horizontal output stage, with this set many times I have seen the flyback and output transistor go defective. When there aer problems in these areas, most of the time the power supply is damaged.

What is interesting, is ou say that this set is about a year old. In actual fact, this model is about 5 to 7 years old.

Considering the age of the set, I would be seriously looking at getting a new set rather than put money in to this one. This model is obsolete, and many of the parts for it are no longer availabe.
