Question about AO Smith Pool Pump Motor Hayward Swimming Pool Pump Full Rated Motor / Cen
New AO Smith motor for pool pump runs correctly with impeller attached on the bench. When installed, it also runs fine until priming is completed and then it keeps sporadically tripping out every second and restarting from the governor switch. I checked rotation, wire leads, and the correct 230 volt setting. Getting frustrated.
READ ALL .. sounds like your power is 120 v, check with meter on L1-L2 . if it says 230-240v the switch might be lose or there is just way too much back pressure OR the impeller is too big for the motor OR the shaft seal is installed wrong, when spinning the impeller by hand "snap of the wrist " it should almost make a full turn.

Try priming in service mode or backwash mode then change over to automode

It sounds like you have 120v available to motor instead of 220v.. Double check your supply voltage to the motor. This arrangement would cause the motor to appear to work on the bench but would not work under a load. hope this helps.

Is it going to run on 230V then? If so you would normally use red and black. The white wire should be a neutral and the ground wire is obviously ground.
Do you have a meter you can use to confirm the voltage between the wires? If you do you'll want to start with red and white since you seem to think black was not being used before. If the voltage reads 230 and the motor is set up for 230 then attach one wire to L1 and the other to L2...it will not matter which is connected where as long as one is on each terminal. Insulate the black and ground the ground lead to the motor ground screw.
If the voltage is not 230 between those two check between red and black. If that is the 230 then insulate white and put red and black to L1 and L2.
