SOURCE: media read error check cable

Your computer tries to boot from various devices:
* CD-ROM
* disk-drive
* USB memory-stick
* 3.5" diskette
* network

in some order that has been configured (either at the factory, or by you, during BIOS SETUP).

So, if there is no media in the CD-ROM, no media in the diskette drive, no connected USB drive, then it will boot from either the network (if there is a network-cable that is connected to a "boot-server" system) or from the disk-drive.

So, is your disk-drive getting power?
Is the "data" cable between the motherboard and the disk-drive connected?
Is the disk-drive "dead" (not spinning) ?

Check your disk-drive.

You may need to purchase a new disk-drive, connect it, and reinstall Windows.

SOURCE: pxe e61 media test fail check cable

what error message are you receiving on the blue screen? if it resets to fast start typing f8 at boot and in the advanced menu, toggle down to do not restart on system failure. write down the hex code (0x00XXXXX) and report back. What version of windows are you running? have you tried to press f2 or f1 or whatever key it is to enter setup on your laptop @ boot and disable network boot?

Driver or software update that was incompatible can cause this, try to boot to F8 and run a disk check.
Also failing ram can cause this, check the ram modules using Mem test

Black screen with info that pops up immediately upon booting up

Hi:
That sort of message comes up when your computer is unable to boot to the hard drive. Those messages basically mean that it is trying to boot from a network, (which it isn't hooked upt to). Your hard drive could have failed, or your boot sequence could have been inadvertently changed too.
First, make sure your thumb drive is not installed in the laptop, as this can cause the problem too.

You can check your boot sequence by rebooting your computer, and entering the BIOS, usually by hitting F1 or F2 on start up. Tab over to the Boot section, and see what the boot order is: Usually it should be: CDROM drive, Then Hard drive, then removeable drives.

If this is ok, check and make sure that your hard drive is showing up in the BIOS on the main page too.
If not, it might be bad....
Hope this helps!

My tosiba a70-kl1 starts up with a black screen and error messages stating "PXE-E61: Media tes failure, check cable" and "PXE-M0F: Eiting PXE rom"

You haved enabled the capability for your computer to "boot" itself by reading from a boot-server connected to your network-cable.

But, the network-cable is unplugged, resulting in the "check cable" message.

What this _could_ mean is that the computer primarily tried, and failed, to boot from your disk-drive, and secondarily tried, and failed, to boot from your CD-ROM, and so it made a tertiary triy, which failed, to boot from the "network", i.e., that your hard-drive is not functioning.

Reboot, and enter "BIOS setup", and disable the "boot from network" option, to get rid of those error-messages. But, it's still possible that your disk-drive is malfunctioning.

It's also possible that your operating system has become corrupted. See if there is enough time to boot into safe mode, or choose a boot option to go into the recovery partition.

Have you made any recent hardware or software modifications?
