The belt is not causing the squeek. either the tub rollers, or the idler pully is squeeking. you must remove the front panels and drum to inspect these parts. usually when a roller or idler pully is squeeking, you need to replace them. if they arnt to worn, you can clean the shaft and grease them to stop the squeek, but i dont recomend that, as it will just be a temporary fix and will start squeeking again. this isnt a easy repair if you've never done it. let me know if you have any further questions. While I would suspect the belt also, it could also be the drum bearing since they both could have the same symptoms. Suggest you try to turn the drum by hand and see if you can hear it then.

How do I open my Maytag Dryer model # SDE305DAYW heavy duty legacy series with lint trap on bottom?

Always unplug the dryer before working on it and watch for sharp corners.

There should be two spring clips between the top and front panels.

Insert a flat object like a putty knife about 6 inches from each side. Push in and top should raise. Once both are done top will hinge back.
The front panel should have two screws, either at the bottom front or inside top. Remove. The inner bulkhead will have four screws. Remove top two and feed belt through the face, then replace the top screws. then remove the lower screws, feeding the belt the rest of the way through. Doing it this way keeps the drum from falling. Complete belt installation. The belt goes completely around the drum , turning the around the motor with the idler arm to keep tension on it.

My maytag legacy dryer SDE305DAYW has a very loud squeeking noise when I start the dryer. After a minute or 2 it stops making the noise. Is this the belt?

In my Maytag dryer model SDE305DAYW the heating element works; however, the tumble drum stopped moving. What's wrong?

This sounds like the drum's drive belt broke. But also ensure there isn't a problem with the drive motor. Do you still hear a motor running when you turn it on? If so, you'll need to replace the drive belt.

I hope this helps! :)
