Riccar machines have model numbers placed in 1 of several places on their machines governed by, I suppose, the whims of the manufacturer and the most common places are on the back underneath the motor mount, on the right end bottom under the handwheel, and just under the bed of the machine, front. These numbers are going to be on a metal plate attached by 2 or more rivets. Should you see 2 or more small holes in the casting in any of these locations, it is possible that the plate has been removed. The number that you have supplied is the serial number, and it can be very difficult to determine the model number from this information as the machine is manufactured at a number of different plants/locations.

SOURCE: I need an instruction manual for a Jones sewing machine model 865

The information did not display when I click on solve.

The best information I have is that Brother Corp bought out Jones Sewing Co in 1968. If they rebranded the sewing machines I can not tell. You can search;

and see if anything matches your machine from the retired models.

SOURCE: what is the value of my admiral sewing machine

Hi. The value of any sewing machine is purely subjective. Sewing machines were made by the millions and the ones made prior to about 1970 were generally extremely well engineered, constructed of metal, and--with just basic, routine maintenance-- will last for many decades. All my regular sewing is done on machines that range in age from 50 to 90 years.
Machines like yours aren't at all rare (sorry) but there are people out there who do like the old machines. You can look on Ebay to get a feel for how much people are willing to pay for machines like yours.
Sometimes a machine, such as Singer model 221 Featherweight, will become valuable. Quilters love this type of Singer because it's small, lightweight/portable, and has a marvelous stitch. One in excellent (meaning showroom) condition might sell for $400 or $500......but I could find any number of them at garage sales for $25.00 or less! (And there are lots of sewers out there who don't like them because all they do is straight stitch.)
This probably isn't what you want to hear. . . .

SOURCE: Need parts/manual for old Riccar sewing machine

Here's a manual for the 551, it should be similar enough for your machine.
If not look on for a similar model.
Find out what shank your machine is and you should be able to buy parts for it. I find ebay great for old sewing machine parts.
Hope this helps!

I would suggest calling Bernina, but I bet you already thought of that. I think you really need a technician to determine what needs repairing or replacing. Sorry can't be of more help

Bobbin thread catches under plate and gets tangled when I try to sew. I cleaned out entire bottom area and changed thread, no help. Please, this is urgent. I am working on a customer quilt.

Check for burrs or scratches on hook. You can smooth with emery cloth. And put one drop of oil on the oscillating hook.I would insert new needle too and make sure foot up when rethreading so thread locates smoothly into the tension discs. I could feel your frustration and hope this helps. Jimmy

Turn wheel not turning easy

Hand wheel "stuck" because you have an obvious jam. Remove bobbin and clean bobbin case, put good quality sewing machine oil on oscillating hook and put new needle in flat side toward back all the way UP, and make sure presser foot UP when you thread machine. Jimmy

Hello, just a few quick questions. I have a Janome Harmony 1017 machine and I want to know if it is an oscillating hook or a rotary hook machine. Also, I was given a rolled hem foot and a zipper foot but...

The easiest way to know is to look at the bobbin case and if it has a finger sticking up then it is oscillating, plate If you have snap on feet to take the foot off just push the front of the foot up, to put the foot on, rest the foot on the needle plate then lower the presser bar down on top of it to snap on

How do I re-insert the bobbin case? It has

I assume this is a oscillating hook machine. I.e. the case snaps underneath the machine in front? Hold the flap of the bobbin case and push it firmly on the hook post as far as it will go. Make sure the "finger" of the bobbin case is at the top.

Your timing is off. Your oscillating hook needs to be retimed by a repair tech.

Fixing my Brother sewing machine

Hi teranm...If it is indeed a timing issue, you should use a technician to correct it. If your "someone" continues to "look at it", and begins to understand the timing process, and discovers how readily accessible the Set Screws are, they may want to chance it. But what they will not perceive until it's too late, is that on Oscillating Hooks, such as what you have, once you loosen the set screws on the Hook, you now have a Distance Issue to keep your Timing Issue company. The tolerance of distance is much more minute than timing tolerance....good luck my friend.
