Question about HP Computers & Internet
Problem with Laptop: HP Pavilion DV8309, AMD Turion 64 processor, 17'' monitor, Windows XP Professional, Ver 5.1, service pack 2 build 2600, bios updated to F.54, ATI xpress 200 video card 128 Memory. I have reinstalled the driver for it.
Computer does not power on properly: when power button is pushed, the blue light comes on, the screen shows HP logo both for may be 2-3 seconds and then power shuts off. This happens with battery only (now that the battery cannot be charged, systgem does not do anything with battery only), battery plus mains, mains only without battery. Battery is brand new.
The other problem is that battery does not charge. If i leave the main power plugged in, computer off, battery in computer: the battery blue light starts blinking within a few minutes after plugging, indicating problem with charging.
Now, I accidentally discovered something: With battery out, main power plugged in, i connected the external monitor to this laptop,)if i push the little pin switch behind the power button (which turns the laptop's display panel off), I turn the computer power on,, computer works fine. As soon as I let the pin switch go, computer turns off. So I put some weight on the pin switch to keep it pressed in and the computer continues to work indefinitely untill i turn it off.
The above thing does not work if I insert battery in, perhaps because the battery is totally dead. Occasionally the charging has worked.
Even though the panel is off, no image on it, i think the computer still sees it because if i have it set as one of the two monitors, things are present on it even though i cannot see them( with the pin switch off)
An extension of the above phenomenon: In the ''display setup'' i changed the primary monitor to be the external monitor and the panel turned off. Turned on the computer, it works fine.
This is the whole story. So, please, what is your diagnosis? I don't know anything about computers. I think it has something to do with the laptop display panel and not the mother board.
Thanks for the help.
The inverter inside the lcd panel is most likely your problem. Try removing the whole lcd screen from the laptop if you are capable and run it with the external screen to confirm. leave the lcd switch off (this lcd switch above the power button turns the lcd inverter on and off)
