Question about Dell Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Dell-inspiron Dell Inspiron One 23", bought it in Fall 2011. Over the past few months, after I have used the computer for a while, the screen begins to get lines, then flicker and flash. If I don't shut it down immediately, the cursor disappears and I have to shut it down without logging out. No longer under warranty, what can I do to fix this? Otherwise, the computer works great.

Hi treacy_gumes, I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? It appears that your video screen is having problems, most likely with the video driver board and not the physical display. Here are a few suggestions to narrow the search down a bit:
    1. memorize the actual key strokes you would use to shut down the system when it is working. On my desktop system I would press the "windows banner" key followed by "U" and then another "U". This would shut my system down. This would help in defining that your system is still functioning, but the display is not. If that is so, we can look into what may be the display problem. If it is not

It is probably a problem with your graphic card's drivers or the card itself

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 530 randomly shuts down and restarts

Sounds like it could be a virus. Or, a heat buildup problem - are all fans inside machine working? Is the fan inside the power supply operating? Was there any work done inside the computer recently?
If the hdw is all ok, go out and buy yourself a copy of Norton Internet Security 2009 - 1 user lic - $49.99 @ Staples. Do *not* buy any earlier vers. of this software! Install, update it, run computer computer scan - probably will find/remove some/many viruses.

If this helps, please take the time to rate my response to you.
Thanks and good luck.

check the device for a " reset " button, they are usually located on the bottom of the device, if this does not work, you may need to contact dell directly and discuss the problem further.

SOURCE: How do I get into safe mode on a Dell Inspiron

You cant get in safe mode because the PC hangs before windows ever try to start.

Try to press F8 multiple times but right after the Dell screen.
Some computer don't like that you press F8 while the bios is loading and just hangs there, maybe its your case.

If you have windows 7 installed, then see if you can boot to the DVD and run a repair on the OS. You also may want to run a diagnostics on the system if you can get to the F12 menu

Dell Inspiron Screen Shake

sorry, can't tell you "no cost fix".

Either you've got a motherboard-screen cable failure(harsh, but not too bad) or you're
video card is fritzing. The green/grey line usually indicated a line break in a data line of the monitor cable. The fuzzy shaking is an indication that one of the sync signals may also be compromised.

To eliminate the video card as the problem... plug a monitor into the external video port, and see if the error is ghosted there.

If this doesn't work, Dell actually has some pretty good tools for you to use in troubleshooting it for yourself. The troubleshooter page begins here. There is a good video of using dell's built-in-to-laptops LCD screen test utility here.

Hope it helps you.
