Question about Philips Magnavox 27MS343S 27" TV
HAVE RECORDED ON THESE DISCS MANY TIMES FROM TV WITH NO PROBLEM, RECORDING ERROR EVERYTIME NOW
Try cleaning the lens of the laser. You can try with a CD cleaning disk. You can get these kits at most of the places that sell the DVD players/recorders.
If you want to be more aggressive, open the unit and manually clean the lens. Inspect the mechanical part to see of playable disk is spinning and the laser is trying to read it.
I have seen the lasers go defective in the way that a disk can be played but the unit will not record. The recording part of the lasers sometimes fail. With a DVD laser analyzer the laser strength can be tested. The laser is not low in cost and if it is replaced the proper calibration is required. This would take a properly equipped and trained service technician to do the work. This is an expensive task to change the laser.
If it is not the lens, or the laser, or a mechanical problem this could be an electronics problem on one of the circuit boards. Electronic problems in these devices are not worth having them serviced out of warranty even if the replacement boards can be found. The parts and labour would be sort of expensive in relation to replacing the unit unless it is a very expensive high end model.
If you do run a DVD or CD player with the cover and laser shield removed, take care that there is no chance of any reflected or direct laser light would hit your eyes. The beam is invisible Infrared, and it can easily do permanent eye damage. It is very much more powerful than a toy laser pointer.

Can you provide some more details about the problem you faces when recording the programs. Normally, it should record without any problem, if all the settings are correct. Just refer its user manual once more, and try. If you can't post a comment here with the problem you faces with recording.

SOURCE: Recording with Converter
stil don't see sense in this. you lose a lot of quality.
Record direct to your recorder or is this TV with build-in receiver or so? You need al compatible digital devices with according stream codecs or be lucky to have RCA jacks out..........

SOURCE: Magnavox converter box turns off
There is a setting I think might be causing this. My mom had this
and we went into the menu and details there is a spot in there that
says 2 hour, 4 hour shut down and we turned it to off. Just a thought. Hope it works.

The remote must be programmable or have a feature called "Code Search". If the remote doesn't have these features then the answer is you will need to buy a remote like i described above with the ability to operate lots of different devices, they are really cheap for the entry level ones, less than $10.00, but I suggest you spend a little more and buy a higher end model with more ease of use features and the ability to operate more types of functions specific to a DVR or DVD or Blu Ray player.. Please rate my help for Fixya, it helps to show my expertise to others.
