First belts are not as easy as they appear. But beside the belt the support runners that support the drum my be bad. when you replace the belt, did you take the entire dryer apart and inspect it for more problems?

Belt should go around entire drum then around motor pulley (which is metal) and tensioner/safety pulley (which is the white pulley)

Testimonial: "THANK YOU SO SO MUCH........I DID IT....IT WENT ON OKAY. BUT ...NOW THE MACHINE SOUNDS LIKE THE BELT IS RUBBING SOMEWHERE....AND I DO NOT SEE THAT THE ORANGE FAN BELT I REPLACED IS MOVING ...SHOULD IT BE? I INSTALLED THAT BELT BY GOING AROUND THE BACK DRUM BAR THAT IS LONG AND IN THE MIDDLE OF BACK OF DRUM.....THEN PUT THE BELT AROUND THE WHITE PULLEY THAT IS ATTACHED TO BAR. I THEN PULLED THE FAN BELT UP TO THE BLACK PULLEY WHICH IS THE FRONT PART OF THE METAL PULLEY. IS THERE SOMETHING I DID WRONG HERE TO MAKE IT SOUND THIS WAY.....IT DID NOT SOUND THIS WAY BEFORE . The dryer does not spin even though it starts and gets hot.

hi, the problem you are having is going to be with the belt that goes from the drum to the motor, if you can turn the drum freely by hand without any friction then this suggests the belt has snapped and needs replacing but if how ever when you turn the drum by hand their is some resistance then this could mean the belt has stretched or the motor has failed either way your going to need to get the back off to have a look.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Need a btlt route so i can put the new drum back in my ge profile

route the belt around the drum, pull the spring loaded idler pulley to the postion that requires you to hold it there..
put the belt : 1 through the motor pulley and around the idler pulley, or 2. around the idler pulley which ever works to keep the tensioner tight. (Idler pulley, tensioner same thing its the pulley not on the motor.
Once you put the belt on the durm, pull the idler pull so there is tension on it it should be clear how it goes.

My dryer needs a new belt. I opened the front panel and removed the broken belt but I am not sure how to put on the new one. I know it goes around the drum but does it go in the middle or near the back...

Cheryl the belt goes in line with the pulleys. 1st Put the belt around the drum. 2nd put the belt around the pulley on the motor. 3rd pull down on the idler pulley and set it so that is pushes on the back side of the belt. Remember the ribs on the belt go against the drum. When done the pulley will take up the tension on the belt. Hope this helps.

I have a broken drum belt, but I don't see how to put the new one on.I see where it goes, but unable to figure out where and how to start it. Whirlpool LEN2000KQ Electic Dryer

Before replacing the belt, purchase a new idler assembly, the one in there is what caused the belt to fail so soon.

Replacing the belt with one person takes a little practice as you have to hold the drum in place while holding the pulley in the slots on the bottom panel and place the belt over the pulley and attach to motor shaft. The diagram shows how the belt is routed:

Replacing maytag dryer belt

looking at the back of the motor where the belt pulley is you would grasp belt coming down from the left side of drum then come across the top of belt pulley that is on motor shaft going clockwise around that pulley then continue back to your left and over the top of belt tension pulley going counterclockwise around that pulley this is when you will have to raise pulley against spring pressure to get belt on then release belt tension pulley make sure that belt is still in belt groove on the drum hope this helps ed
