Question about Kodak 5500 ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER

3 Answers

Dead print head

I purchased my 5500 in Feb of 2008. I started having problems in late August with colors not printing. I cleaned the heads four times and still no results. I tried printing in just black and it would not print at all after cleaning four times. I called tech support 9-8-08 and got a free print head. Now in June of 2009 I'm running into the same problems again.

I called tech support and they sent another free print head. My brother-in-law bought 5 of these printers for his business and is having the same problems.

Can anyone tell me why the print head keeps going out? I've had 4 HP prints in the last 16 years and never once did a print head go out.

I'm begining to think it was a mistake to buy this printer.

The reason why the printhead is going bad is because this was a problem with the printer since it was launched since day one all tech support will do is replace the print head but if u call them and ask them to escalate the case to a manager and you need to act very irate then maybe and just maybe you should get a refund.
the printhead keep rubbing against the bottom of the carriage in this printer causing the contacts to wear off really fast and thats the problem ur facing ,it was one factory faulted printer that was launched

Most common reason is using cheap or 3rd party ink, the genuine ink has lubricants and cleaning solution in the ink and keeps the heads running.

I don't have a solution, but My Kodak 5500 All-in-One required about 8 new printheads in 2 years. This printer was expensive to begin with. Kodak used to send me free printheads. After a call to them last week I was told my 5500 was out of warranty, the printer cannot recocognize signals from the printhead and that they would email me a 30% off coupon to use for a printer from their Kodak online store. I am responsible for taxes and shipping and handling, which out to be high considering the weight of their printers. I am having a hard time financially and can't afford a printer even at 30% off. This bugs me. I think having read other posts that Kodak makes a bad printer.

Don't print the black color

Doing reference on your issue. Double check the ink cartridge to make sure that the cartridge is correctly installed. Also be sure that the black ink cartridge used is compatible with the machine.

The next thing to do is a cartridge cleaning as the belief is that the print head is blocked. If you have done a thurough cleaning, the next thing to do is replace the black ink cartridge to be certain the ink cartridge is not faulty.

I have included print head cleaning instructions in case you have not done this cleaning process.

here is some information from the Brother support site:

If one or more of the ink colors are missing from pages printed by your machine (i.e. received faxes, copies and/or documents printed from the PC etc), nozzles in the print head may be clogged, or the ink cartridge in question may not be installed correctly. Verifying that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and/or cleaning the print head may solve the problem.

Cleaning the print head may solve the problem. When cleaning the print head, you are given the option to clean BLACK ONLY, one of the three colors (CYAN, YELLOW, or MAGENTA), or all four colors at once. For this issue we recommend cleaning only the affected color. If more than one color is missing then choose ALL.

When the machine completes cleaning the print head, press Color Start. A Print Quality Check Sheet will print.

Cannon 4100 has stopped printing colour. I have tried deep cleaning 3 times. Printer is approx 3 years old. Also it is now starting to flash orange button to switch on and off to fix problem but this also...

I think your print head is finally dead. I would purchase this from www.precisionroller.com by searching for "Canon BJC4100 Ink." You get the print head, a black cartridge, and a color cartridge for $67.50. I think you should spend the money to keep this printer running. A lot of the new printers are cheap, the print heads only last about two years, and replacing the print head costs more than the printer did.

Unable to print BLACK

The machine should begin cleaning automatically, and the LCD will alternately show "CLEANING" and "PLEASE WAIT". When the machine completes its cleaning cycle, the LCD will display the date and time. Print the Print Quality Check Sheet and see if all colors are present:

    1. Press the Ink Management key.
    2. Use the up or down navigation key to select TEST PRINT.
    3. Press Set to confirm your choice.
    4. Use the up or down navigation key to select PRINT QUALITY.
    5. Press Set to confirm your choice. Press the Color(Colour) Start key to print the Test Sheet.
If one or more of the colors is still missing from the printed page, cleaning the print head may resolve this problem. When cleaning the print head, you are given the option to clean BLACK ONLY, three colors at a time (CYAN, YELLOW, and MAGENTA), or all four colors at once. For this issue we recommend cleaning only the affected color. If more than one color is missing then select ALL. Follow the steps listed below to clean the print head:

Cleaning the Print Head
  1. Press the Ink Management key.

  2. Use the up or down navigation key to select CLEANING.

  3. Press Set to confirm your choice.

  4. Use the up or down navigation key to select the color that is not printing
    -OR-
Select ALL if more than one color is not printing.

  5. Press Set to confirm you choice.

  6. The machine should begin cleaning automatically, and the LCD will alternately show "CLEANING" and "PLEASE WAIT". When the machine completes its cleaning cycle, the LCD will display the date and time.

  7. Test by printing the "Print Quality Check Sheet":

If one or more of the ink colors is still missing from the printed page, repeat the print head cleaning steps listed above up to 4 more times. After each cleaning, print the Print Quality Check Sheet to see if there is any improvement.

I hope it helps!!!

Prints 2 or 3 pages then fades out

There is a problem with your printhead and it needs to be replaced, but this is a completely free process, kodak won't charge you anything for it. You need to call their support center to have it replaced, or you may go to their website on kodak.com/go/aiosupport to replace it yourself on line.
