Question about Seagate Technology Seagate Central 4TB

1 Answer

Need to install the hard drive from the Seagate Central into a computer to recover data.

Seagate Central is not getting power. Received waiver for warranty to attempt to retrieve data (data recovery wants $1k-3K). It has been suggested that I can remove the hard drive and install it in a computer. I have gotten as far as opening the system cover, but do not know how (or what) to install in a computer. Do I take the hard drive out of the metal casing and put it into the one in the computer?

Easier way if computer has USB ports, just use a USB convertor for IDE and Sata, (search for usb hard drive convertor) ( $10 or So) and you will be able to copy your files to the computer and to save to another hard drive or CD or DVD.

I think I am still confused. The Seagate Central does not have an IDE/Sata connection (that I see). It is a wireless network connected external hard drive, but the power connection went out. That's why I need to put the drive in a computer, so that I can access the data through the computer. I already have the computer (it's an old out of use one) and the external opened up, but I am uncertain about moving the disc from the Seagate drive housing to the computer drive housing.

If you can open the Seagate Central, you should be able to remove the hard drive that inside it. The problem is which method of attaching the Hard Drive to the older computer. If the older computer has usb ports you can use a usb adapter. I'm assuming that the Seagate Hard Drive is e to have those connections (SATA)

Got a USB SATA converter and got it hooked up. Computer shows six drives (partition?) and indicates that each one needs to be formatted before it an be used. Connected to the new Seagate Central via USB and it shows 3 usb shared folders, but I cannot still cannot access data. I ran a search (*.*) and it listed 588 items, but when I try to navigate system stops responding.

I'm Sorry, Laura, went to Seagate and couldn't even find a manual for it. Which operating system are you using?

Thanks BJ. Using Windows 7. Tried Spin-rite and it found no errors. Downloaded free software for partition find and mount, which seemed to have quite a bit of following. It is currently scanning, and I expect it will take awhile. The "quick" scan took over an hour. If you think of anything else, I'm open to just almost anything (except paying someone $1k-$3k to do the same thing I'm doing LOL).

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. Can I recover files in any way from ST310005FDA2E1-RK 1TB Seagate Freeagent because it doesn't appear when connected to my laptop?

Hello invest_greec
Connect it to another computer and use Free Recuva works fine :
Do not try to recover all at once but each category at a time , documents , pictures , music ...etc...
If it fails , try this one . It's not free but very efficient : Tenorshare Data Recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data due to unwanted erasing , system sabotage, virus corrupted partitions, drives crash, physical damage,ect..
If you still don't have success , you will have to go to a recovery office but let's hope not because it will cost you a lot of money .

Seagate FreeAgent is flashing but not recognized by computer

Hello sir/ma'am hi, the flashing red means that the hard drive has problems, you usually cannot read any data making it no to appear on your computer. Suggestion: The logical thing to do is get a new one, NOW if you have data on that drive, you need to disassemble it and get the hard drive unit, place it on a computer, run seagate disk manager and pray that you may recover the drive data.

if its your motherboard that crashed then ther is no problem with your hard disk. connect your hard disk to any other computer and you can access all the files in it.
if it is your harddsik that crashed then try recovery utilities like western digital data storege manger or any other disk recovery tool available for free. if still it fails then you can recover your data if you hand over your hard disk to the nearest service centre. but recover from a hard disk only if its very valuable. thay will charge you per MB of data recovered

You have chance and the MOST effective way is to try some so-called data recovery software.

First of ALL - Connect your Seagate external hard drive to your personal computer. And install this software Wondershare Data Recovery on the computer in order to perform data recovery. Get the program from its site.

Mac data recovery (for Mac OS X)

Good luck. I hope that my reply has shed some light on the problem!
