What all that means is the sewage pipe going to the street is getting clogged so either snake it with 50 foot snake or go buy so Drain-O (60 ounce bottle costs about $9) and pour 1/5 in toilet and wait 10 minutes then pout 1/5 in Bathroom sink & wait 10 minutes. Keep do that until 60 ounce bottle is empty. Let this stay in pipes for couple hours and your toilet will double flush now its clean with no corrosion, hair, cooking oil, and other debris.

SOURCE: how to replace a commercial flush valve

These used to very simple but have become more complex as technogy evolves. I will give you the standard answer though.

First shut the water supply off to the aplliance (there is a little decorative cover on the valve that is attached to the water line coming out of the wall. It looks like a nut. Pop this cover off and screw the screw in remember right is closed and left is opened.)

Now it is only a matter of unscrewing the couple of nuts that attach the actual valve.

Most valves come with step by step instructions but even without them it is usually a 30 minute job or less. You will need a flat head screw driver, spud wrench, tubing cutters- to cut the chrome trim tube to size, and some pipe thread compound or teflon tape.
Thanks for using Fix Ya and if I can be of further assistance let me know.

SOURCE: toilet sounds like it is flushed or water filling up in the tank.

if the toilet has a 'flapper' is there slack in the chain connecting it to the flush arm? The flapper life is usually around 4 years or so - replace it if older.

SOURCE: New Pegasus Dual Flush Toilet Water does not enter Toilet bowl

There is a small plastic tube that comes from the fill valve and attaches onto the overflow tube on the flush valve. If no water is coming out of that tube, then it is clogged internally. You can remove the tube from the fill valve and take a small piece of wire or a straight pin to try and clear it from the outside. If that doesn't work, then I would recommend replacing the fill valve. They are inexpensive to replace. If you don't know how to get into the fill valve's internal guts at the top, then I would recommend replacement of the valve. One more thing, there also could be a water saver where the outlet is on the little tube I just explained. It is usually light blue, you can remove that and discard it.

SOURCE: Toilet will not flush

It sound like you have debris caught in the fill valve. Remove the top where the washer is and put your hand over it and slowly turn the water on to flush the fill valve. Replace the washer with a new one and then replace the top.

If you have the old ball and **** style, replaceing the diaphram is harder so I would recommend replacing it with a fluidmaster fill valve. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: dear sir/madam. when flushing toilet it takes a

Some water saver toilets are very problematic about not having enough water to thoroughly flush. Here are 2 things to look for:

First, after toilet stops running completely, check the water level. Most tanks will have a "full" line marked inside. If the water level is low, your fill valve will need to be adjusted.

Second, if the water level is fine, your "flapper" valve (very bottom of tank) may not be opening all the way. Watch valve as you flush the toilet. It should come up far enough to allow total unobstructive flow of water. If it isn't, adjust chain length until it does. Make sure there is a little slack left.

If neither of these solves your problem, you may have a partial clog that will need to be gotten out with a drain snake that can be purchased at any hardeware store.

What's wrong with macerating toilet?

What is most likely the case is that the toilet is not properly vented by waste plumbing standards. Not all jurisdictions require macerating toilets to be vented, but by not doing so causes pressure in the drain lines as well as some suction which can pull water from sink traps, allowing odors and insects to get into the home.

When i flushed the toilet the water drained real slow and gurgled through the sink. also during the winter noticed a wet spot on the lawn where the septic tank is. would this be from the septic field

Yes, to your second question. As far as your first, this sounds like your air vent on your roof is clogged. You probably have something in the pipe. This has to be free to allow proper suction on the drain. This is important for air flow and draining. If that doesn't fix it, then there may be a clog in the line itself. Does it drain slow when you flush just water. It is possible you could have flushed something down the toilet that has caught on the trap within the toilet. I believe though the problem is in the air vent on the roof. Let me know back what you fin and we will go from there.

50 year old American Standard toilet . Bowl fills up ,makes noises like it's pluged & then flushes

You have a blockage in the trap as the water goes out . What happens is that there is so much pressure with the water building up in the tank,, that it finally pushes the water out. Also check the vent above the toilet which is located on the roof. It must be free of debris to allow the pressure to stay equal and not a vacuum.

Sewer smell in house since installing the new toliet and the toliet gurgles when the washing machine is on. It started with the new toliet now the gurgling and smell is also present in another bathroom.

It sounds like a vent problem.
On top of each house is a vent stack.
There should be a vent stack above each toilet, and above kitchen sink.
Look for pipes sticking out of roof.
These pipes are open to the sewer line.
When you run a column of water down a drain, the vent stack lets air flow in front of and behind the column of water.
This air flow prevents the gurgling sound.
The gurgling sound is the drain water pushing air in front of it because of a clogged vent.
If you have a two story house, there are vents that run between floors to prevent the air flow from gurgling or bubbling sewer air into each drain as water column moves down pipe.

Look for bird nest over vent pipe on top of house.
Run a snake down into pipe from roof and see if the is a stoppage.
You many need to call plumber to track down each vent and the cause.
For example if there are quick-vents installed inside a wall and the quick vent is no longer working.

there is no air release. the vent must be clogged somewhere. you can take a hose up there and see if it drains all the way or floods over. since the tub drain has a trap and the toilet itself is a trap, there has to bee a good amount of air pressure coming up without a release. i would say an obstruction. possibly at the junction of the main and the vent.

Kohler is correct. The most likely cause of this problem is an obstruction in the common vent stack that both toilets share. When you flush the old toilet it need more air to flush and will get it from the easiest source (your new water saver toilet). First adjust the float level in the old toilet so it won't use as much water or just stick a brick in the tank to take up space.Second, run a snake down the vent stack from the roof to check for obstructions. Birds will sometimes nest in there.
