Question about Dometic Refrigerators

1 Answer

RM 2611 Goes into default mode and freezes everything in the fridge when on A/C power. Switched to propane it operates fine and maintains 40 degrees in the fridge. I have replaced the original lower board with a Dinosaur board and replaced the thermistor. The thermistor is fine reading 9,000ohms when the lead is submerged in ice water. Any idea why it works fine on propane but goes into default on A/C?

This Dometic RM 2611 fridge is in a 1994 Fleetwood motor home and stays connected to shore power all the time. If I disconnect the thermistor from the lower board while on propane, it goes into default mode. On A/C power it stays in default mode even when the thermistor is connected.

The eyebrow board (upper board) seems to be working fine and allows me to switch between propane and shore power. If I turn off the fridge using the eyebrow board while on shore power the fridge continues to run and freeze everything, even though there are no lights on the eyebrow board.

The relay for the ac powered heater is stuck closed. it should cycle on and off , and not be on at all with the unit off.

Is this relay built into the lower electronic board or is it something I can replace?

  • mike cooper Apr 23, 2014

Built in to the board . You can replace the board, if you can get hold of one. If you are going to do that, change the thermistor at the same time.

Hi, This sounds like either a power supply issue or the ''fridge is completely knackered. Check that the power supply to the 'fridge is working. Check for an internal fuse in the 'fridge, if there's one there, is it working?

2 year old RM 2620 fridge, stopped working. I have power to the plug where it plugs in, but there's no lights or cooling now. Fuses are fine.

On the back side of the unit there will be a small thermostat switch mounted on the heat column. It will be round with two wires attached to it. In the center is a reset button. If this button does not restore power then the next step is to replace the wire coming from 12v supply to the thremostat switch. The wire will be red and will have a black sleeve on it. Under the sleeve is a safety diode (to prevent overheating and fire), it will be held in place with three bendable metal fingers. If the diode is bad it will not allow 12v power to pass through to the circuit board. Even though the refrigerator is running on 110v power the circuit board still requires 12v power to operate. The diode is a part of a FREE recall kit offered by Dometic so your local RV repair center should be able to help you out.

Freezer in the gararge redfrigerator quits working when outside temps get real cold

hello. this is a common problem. The thermostat for a refrigerator/freezer is in the refrigerator part. Normally the refrigerator is kept at around 40 degrees. The compressor turns on as required to maintain this tempearture. The evaporator coils are concentrated in the freezer side, so that the freezer stays at around 0 degrees while the fridge side is held at 40.

If the ambient temp is around 25 degrees, the refrigerator compartment will get below the setpoint of 40 degrees, and gradually continue down towards 25 degrees. The compressor will not have to run at all to maintain this. In fact, the compressor is designed not to run, once the refrigerator compartment gets below the setpoint, for fear of freezing the contents of the fridge.

The lack of circulating refrigerant due to the non-running compressor means that the freezer compartment will gradually warm up to 25 degrees.

If the unit were just a freezer, it would work fine in the unheated garage. If it were just a refrigerator, it would not run in these conditions, and the contents would eventually freeze, but it is otherwise OK.

Regards, Joe PS kindly rate my answer. Thank you.

Refrigerator nguyen@ite.net 40 F or lower is the recommended refrigerator temperature to slow bacterial growth and maintain quality. Freezing occurs at 32 F; adjust refrigerator accordingly between 32 F and 40 F to prevent unwanted freezing, such as freezing milk.

Dometic fridge

I would look for a ventilation problem. If the fridge is working at that level nothing wrong with electric. The unit needs air to move up and out the top to make the freezer work. It sounds like the air is only moving the wrong way out the lower vent. Careful it could just be a birds nest but it may be a large wasp nest blocking the roof opening.

Tuna, it sounds like your thermistor is bad. Once the fridge reaches 40 degrees, the thermistor is supposed to tell the board to stop cooling and maintain. You can test it with an Ohmmeter.

To keep a constant 40 degrees the fridge would have to be running 24/7. Any fridge will maintain the 40 degrees but in your case, if you are going to be travelling, you should be looking at a fridge that can run on mains and battery power. It might even pay you to invest in an extra battery, dedicated to the fridge and charged by mains power and/or the vehicle alternator.
