You should be able to do both without disturbing the motor.

To do the brushes - about half an hour...
1. UNPLUG the washer.
2. check you've unplugged.
3. Tip the machine carefully up so you can get to the underside
4. Pull cables off the existing brushes.
5. Remove the brushes with a cross head screwdriver. Each brush as two screws holding in on, but the brushes are keyed into the motor chassis. They are fiddly.

To do the belt. + as long as your patience lasts...
1. UNPLUG the washer.
2. check you've unplugged.
3. Open the top of the machine - see the sides of the lid about 10 cm from front, remove plastic cap on each torx head, undo torx. (torx set required)
4. Remove concrete block from top - large spanner is required - remember the sequence so you can replace later.
5. Lean over the drum and see the large drive wheel. To pop the belt off, turn the wheel forcing the belt to the edge of the wheel. It will eventually come off.
6. to replace belt - see motor shaft at bottom of unit. Dangle belt round shaft of motor and gently pull so it does not come off.(This is not easy!)
7. At the same time Ease one side of the new belt back on to drive wheel on the back of the drum.
8. Turn Drive wheel until belt is on.(This is not easy and requires alot of hand strength)
9. Replace concrete block with bolt and spanner in reverse sequence you removed it.
10. replace lid, torx and cover for torx.

SOURCE: Hotpoint Aquarius 1100 WD61P (analogue) washer dryer, sparking motor (and stopping)

you seem to know what your doing. yes you do have to remove the motor in order to remove those carbon brushes, while your at it, you can also adjust the screwing/bearings of the bolts to hinder the machine from moving a lot.

The motor does not have provision for belt adjostment, it is self tensioning
To gain access to the brushes, you need to remove the motor from the washer.
Remove rear panel, remove belt, unplug motor lead, taking note which way the plug goes, undo screws securing motor, and lever motor back with a screw driver, remove motor and change brushes.

SOURCE: Hotpoint Aquarius WMA54 very noisy during spin

Hi, if your H/P is noisy on the spin cycle, just open the door and turn the drum a few times. If you feel some play, or kind of loud huming noise, then it is the bearings, very, very common on H/P WMA's.

My brushes on my aquarius wma54 need replacing, where is the motor and how do i change the brushes.what type of motor is it

The motor is located at the bottom rear of the washer.
Remove lower rear panel, unplug lead into motor,, remove earth wire.
Remove 2 bolts holding motor to drum, lever motor away from you to remove.
Brushes are located at the end furthest away from the pulley.
There has been more than 1 type of motor fitted to this model, so until you remove the motor, you will not know which brushes you need.

What has caused the short circuit on the circuit board by the programme dial?

Could be a problem with the motor that has caused it, usually caused by the brushes wearing down and short circuiting the armature, causing the board to blow, you need to check the brushes before doing anything else.

What do the brushes on the motor look like?

They are carbon brushes.there is 2 of them, the brush itself looks like lead like in a pencil, they rub on the motor as it spins providing electricity to the motor.they are spring loaded to push onto the motor.most brushes are external & you can see them but others are incased inside the motor.brushes are allways at one end of the motor with a single wire plugging on to it.

Drum is not turning

Could be the brushes, only way to prove it is to remove the motor and check the brushes for wear.
If they are less than 3 or 4 mm long, then they need replacing. If brushes are o/k, then it is probably a control board fault.

My machine hotpoint WMA54 takes the water but the drum does not turn, what could be the problem? thanks

Could be motor brushes in need of replacement.
To check them, remove lower rear cover of washer.
Unplug motor and remove earth wire, remove drive belt.
Undo 2 screws securing motor to drum, and lever motor off
the mounts
Replace brushes if less than 3 or 4 mm long.
If brushes o/k, then could be control board problem.
Check all connections between module and motor.

Thankyou..

Clothes still too wet after complete cycle

I would suggest that the filter wants cleaning.
To access it, remover lower rear panel of washer.
Locate and remove the large black hose on to the tub.
Be careful, as there will be water in the hose.
Remove and clean plastic filter inside hose.
Refit hose and filter..
I would also suggest that you remove motor and check the brushes for wear, whilst you have the rear panel off.

If there is less than 10mm showing, then they need replacing..
Please leave a rating for my fixya solution.
Thanks.
