I cant really read some of the options on the screen on my ti 89....the letters are so blurry......what can i do ?????

Hey shrestha,

I've never seen a calculator with display clarity problems.

The only option I could think to offer you is to attempt to adjust the contrast. However, I'm not sure whether or not your TI-89 actually has an option to change the contrast. Because I own a TI-89 Titanium - and although its a wonderful calculator - it does not allow the user to alter the darkness/brightness of the display.

Call Texas Instruments: 1-800-TI- CARES...They are pretty helpful with common questions like this.

The calculator crashed two times several days ago while I was using it. It worked fine the following day, but after that the screen became very dark. So dark that I need a flash light shining at it to see....

I will address one part of the question only: I will avoid the speculations.

How to change the screen contrast

  2. Press the ON button to turn calculator ON.
  3. Press and HOLD the Control key [CTRL]
  4. Press [+] to darken the screen
  5. Press [-] to lighten the screen (Your case)
  6. Stop when contrast is adequate.

Screen color

It's not a color screen so no, you can't change the color. You can, however, change the contrast. Press and release the 2ND key, then press and hold the up-arrow to increase or down-arrow to decrease the contrast.

When I connect my calculator to the overhead, the display is dark and will not show the proper display that is on the calculator...is there a setting I need to change?

On the TI overhead screen, there is a dial. This is how you adjust the contrast. It sound like the contrast on the overhead display is too dark.

The calculator will not turn on a TI 83 plus, batteries changed

You say you changed the batteries. Did you also change the back up battery? It's located in a little door with a screw right above the AAA batteries.

My students have come to me many times and have said that their calculator will not turn on. Most times it is that the contrast on the screen has been turned down and the calculator is turning on but the screen is too dim to see that it's on.

To check your contrast, turn the calculator on, press the 2nd key and the up arrow. This is how you darken the screen. You lighten the screen the same way but you use the down arrow instead.

It will not turn on

Hello,
The problem may be due to the screen contrast being too low.

You can play with the contrast (increase or decrease).
To change contrast you perform the following manipulations.
1. Turn calculator ON
2. Press [2nd] key, then release it.
3. Press Up arrow, then release it
4. Repeat steps 2, and 3, until contrast is satisfactory.

To decrease contrast do as above, pressing Down arrow in step 3.

Hope it helps lighten up those screens

TI-83 countdown

Pressing 2nd then the up or down arrows is how you change the contrast on the TI-83. All you need to do is press the 2nd key then hold the down arrow to get your screen back. The countdown that you saw was just the value the calculator assigns to the contrast. It goes from 0-10.

Hope that helps!
