Question about Philips MX5100VR System

1 Answer

Stuck in Mono

So for some reason, my Philips MX5100VR Unit is stuck in mono. More annoyingly, only the audio for the left speaker is coming through. So I've got my left side audio coming through both speakers. I don't have it set up for surround sound or anything. Just stereo. In the menu I found an option called "mono" and it's set to On. I can't turn it off. So I figured maybe a factory reset would fix the problem. Over 2 hours google searching and nothing. Not even the manual tells you how to do a factory reset. So I guess my questions are 1. How do I get it off Mono 2. How do I do a factory reset

SOURCE: only 2 of my 5 speakers are working

Press the SURR button until you get sound on all five speakers. If you don't get sound on all 5, there are a few possibilities:
1) the program you are watching only gets stereo sound or lower (only two or one speaker will play in this case)
2) you need to get a digital audio cable instead of using the red/white AV cable
3) a setting on the TV, cable, or satellite box needs to be changed to allow surround sound in full

SOURCE: i have the philips hts3440/37 none of the speakers work.

Doubtful that it is as serious as a fuse, unless it was working before and now it's not.

Are you getting no sound when watching DVD's? Try adjusting the volume on the home theater system - press the SURR button until it says "Dolby" or something like that.

Make sure it is connected like this:

Stereo only playbacks in mono. it used to play stereo

Stereo is actually two identical amplifiers which when the left and right of a stereo signal is fed into the respective inputs will reproduce the stereo sound through the left and right speakers.
Mostly there is a mono/stereo switch so if only a mono signal is available it is reproduced through both speakers.

You don't make it clear whether the playback is in mono or half a stereo?

If playback is in mono it will emerge from both speakers but the directional element will be absent. If the playback is in half a stereo the sound will emerge from one speaker only or mostly one speaker.

Most common problem is the failure of one of the amplifiers which could be electronic or the failure of any of the various switching usually used in such things.
The amplifiers can be tested by injecting a signal into each amplifier input and will be found satisfactory if the sound emerges from each speaker in turn at a similar volume.

Sound very poor

there could be a few issues. It could be the speakers themselves. I believe this tv has an audio out. I would hook it up to a stereo and see if it that improves it. It could also be something internal like the amplifier. You have a couple options but I would just use a stereo for sound. If you still need more assistance let me know. Please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thanks,
Lee

Very little sound coming from the speakers

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

One of the speaker inputs is not connected. Connect the speaker wiring securely. The BALANCE setting is all the way in one direction. Adjust the BALANCE control. Unit is in MONO mode. Turn off MONO mode.

I am only hearing audio out of my left headphone speaker when plugged into the Tascam US-122. how can I play back my tracks and have the audio fill both speakers?

you might be using a mono output jack or input jack.....check the jack end...1 ring = mono / 2 rings = stereo
make sure your sending a stereo signal in, then check the L/R balance.

There are many different "listening modes" integrated on my Kenwood VR-7070 6.1 channel receiver. But i only get both front speakers to work when in "mono" mode. Is there an easy fix?

There is not a "fix" for this selection, MONO is basically a single channel output so there is no seperation for various speakers like left or right which is a stereo effect, mono is like a single speaker sound so you are fortunate to have the sound from 2 speakers but they deliver the same sound.

On the original TV remote press the "AUDIO" button until it gets to the option "MAIN" and this should get the stereo sound back.

Left speaker works in all modes except the tv mode

It sounds like there must be a bad connection on that input. Try switching the left and right input cables for the TV and see if you get the left cahannel working. If so, investigate a possible bad cable or output issue from the TV.

I have a theater logic home cinema subwoofer

i do not have this system however i did look up a picture and i can see rows of red and white Mono speaker inputs this is where you would plug in your Mono speakers it does not look like stereo speakers will work plug one mono speaker in a red the other in white i cannot see a port to use it for a computer but if there is look for a round 3.5mm stero jack and if u find one you must have a 3.5mm auido to 3.5mm audio cable put one side in the system and the other in the headphone jack of your computer

One speaker only works in Mono mode

I would be checking the set up mode , you might have it set to left or right channel only , but in mono mode both speakers will come on through one channel

Sharp Aquos LC-32D44U stuck in ""Mono"

I dont know if this will work for you, but its worth a try. I had the same problem.

1. I changed to a station that was having the problem (an analog station with MONO displayed on the screen).
2. I unplugged the TV for about 15-20 minutes. (I was thinking maybe something needed to refresh, so thats why i unplugged the tv.)
3. I plugged the tv back in and voila. The station showed up as MONO then immediately swtiched to STEREO.

After that, i was able to use the AUDIO feature on the remote to actually change from MONO to SAP, etc.

Ive had my Sharp for about 5 months now, and thats the first time its happend to me. Luckily, i solved the problem...this time.

Hope it helps.
