Hi peter,
Some motherboards get back to default BIOS settings just by removing and replacing the CMOS battery. But in most of the motherboards, you need to reset it using jumper pins (those 3 pins are labelled in most of the MBs).
For resetting, there are 3 pins provided on the motherboard with 2 pins always coupled (or shorted) using a small cap. Say the cap is shorting pins 2 and 3. You have to now remove the cap and put it on to short pins 1 and 2 for about 10-15 seconds. Then revert back the cap to pins 2 and 3.
Make sure the CMOS battery is not removed during this process.
Power on the system, BIOS should now be resetted back to its default settings.Hope this solves your problem and rate my solution if it helps you.Have a good day.

Regards,
bonefirediv.

SOURCE: Hi, I have NEC Versa E6300

Hi Prajeet
To reset your BIOS password you need to call the NEC to give you a reset code. Most Computer manufacturers like DELL, HP do have password reset tool from their end. you just need to call them to ask for a reset code but expect to answer all security questions before they gave you the reset code.
Thanks for using Fixya.

SOURCE: How do i reset my lenovo t410 to factory settings?

Read the manual and it will tell you the process.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "IBM Support" or "Lenovo" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for Manuals and search them for Factory Restore or System Recovery.

Why not consider another option?

System Restore will allow you to select a Restore Point (date and time) to set your system back to when it was working ok. It does not delete any of your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs (unless the program was installed after the Restore Date you selected).

System Recovery (sometimes referred to as Factory Restore) will set your system back to when you first purchased it. It Deletes Everything. Most times the System Recovery does not work unless there is a recovery partition on your hard drive created by the manufacturer. If you are trying to recover from a set of cd's most times it does not work.

Instead of doing a System Recovery it's much easier to just Reinstall Windows. Look on your computer for the Certificate of Authentication (COA) Sticker. It will tell you what operating system is on your computer and it will give you the Product Key Code (a series of 5 letters and numbers) that you will need to activate windows. If you don't have an operating system disk, borrow one from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker. Just make sure it is the same as your COA Sticker's operating system or it will never activate. Also make sure you get the COA Product Key Code for the disk you borrow because sometimes the system will ask for the one that is on your system and sometimes it will ask for the one from the installation disk.

SOURCE: crack bios password on my lg x110 - forgot bios password - can not get factory reset - help please

A password is required for access to the BIOS and I do not know the password. I have had this problem for quite some time now but luckily I've managed to get access to the BIOS now. I used lots of different programs to crack the password but I failed in vain. I removed the little battery that sat on the motherboard but nothing happened, I ran Hirens bootcd 15.1 and it did not help either. Eventually I got hold of a new system BIOS for my LG X110 and then flashed my BIOS. No password is needed now :) Download LG Notebook (X110/XD110) System BIOS here -> http://download.notebook-driver.com/driver/LG/X110/BIOS_Setup_X110.zip and run the program. That should solve your problem, because it did for me :)

How do I reset to factory settings

Please give more details as to which factory settings you would like to reset to. Do you mean BIOS factory settings or windows defaults? Or would you like to restore your laptop to its original condition?
The procedure in each case is different, so if you could provide more information (also about the make and model of your laptop), I could guide you through the process.
Regards

Best thing to do is to just reset the BIOS Defaults. This will make sure that your BIOS is setup just like it was from the factory. This also will help cause if your having other hardware problems you know that its something inside of the laptop instead of a setting in the BIOS.

Rebbot to factory settings

Hi bgreenejr,

Are you referring to the BIOS or OS?

If you’re referring to the BIOS settings, you can do this by accessing it and selecting "set to factory default" from the menu. The most common way to access it is by pressing the DEL button upon boot up; there are however, a lot of branded PC and laptops may use a different button like F2 or F12, etc; if you’re BIOS is locked, of course you’ll need the password to log-in.

Another and common method of resetting it to factory default is by shorting the CMOS reset jumper located in your motherboard, usually it’s the closest jumper to the battery or the CMOS chip. This does not require any password, actually this is the method used if you forget your BIOS password. I would suggest that you consult your motherboard or computer’s documentation on how to locate the CMOS reset jumper on it.

If you are referring you your operating system, the only sure way to reset it to default settings is if you do a clean install, that means re-formatting your pc and re-doing everything again, kinda messy, unless you can do a system restore that would revert it back to the original date and time when you first install the system, . Hope this helps

Cheers and best regards,
