It will almost certainly be inside the gas tank. Pick up a Haynes manual, you'll be glad you did as this is not a simple job. You'll have to drain the fuel tank at least most of the way, lower it, remove the pump sending unit from the top of the tank, replace it and put it all back together.

You'll need to check the circuit from the fuel pump relay back to the pump. The computer grounds the relay. If the pump is running the filter could be clogged.
have you checked to see if engine is firing? ignition module can go bad and you would loose fire and fuel at the same time. i replaced one on a chevy truck last week and it was located beside the ignition coil.
i have an 03 yukon and i just replaced the fuel pump and it ran for 2 hours then it just died on the highway. it turns over but will not start. whats wrong with it???
The problem is with the fuel level sensor, it's attached with the fuel pump and located inside the fuel tank, sometimes the water and other impurities inside the fuel causes this problem, solution is to get the fuel pump opened by a professional and the problem might be solved by some simple cleanup.
Hope it helps and comment if you need more advice.
