Braun cleaning stand - pump will not run during cleaning cycle
My Braun shaver cleaning stand ran perfectly for several years until recently. The system would perform a cleaning cycle but I could tell something was awry because the shaver head didn't have the usual pleasant after-smell of the cleaning fluid. The blower motor inside the cleaning stand would run but the pump motor to spray the fluid into the cutter/foil assembly could not have been running.
WARNING - If your Braun Cleaning System and Shaver are under warranty, you will probably violate the warranty by pulling it apart for repairs.
I opened the cleaning stand (make sure you pop the upper section to allow removal of the cleaning fluid cartridge and let the system drain first! ) by prying the dome section from the bottom section at the circular gap around the body of the cleaning stand.
Once inside I inspected all the connections and located the pump motor. Using an external power supply (+12VDC) I confirmed the motor was either bad or locked down. (Remove the wires so that you do not subject the control pcb to the external supply voltage) While inspecting the bottom side of the pump section (this is where the fluid is drawn in) I noticed a white toothed gear inset into the white bottom section of the pump well.
I used a small screwdriver to rotate the gear to make sure the mechanics of the pump were not bound up. They were free and I tested the pump motor again. SUCCESS! The pump motor ran normally!
I then reassembled the cleaning stand and tested it with the shaver and Braun supply.
If I have more trouble, it is likely that the brush contacts of the pump motor are worn and when I rotated the pump gear, it placed the commutator in position to allow the motor to operate.
