How small are snakes when they are first born

It depends on the type of snake:

At a minuscule 4 inches, the Barbados thread snake is the smallest. As a baby snake grows inside an egg, the egg grows. Some snakes are born from eggs, others have live birth, no egg. A young snake is known as a snakelet. A just hatched one can be called a hatchling.

Pse identify a snake - found in my car, no pics

Can you give a more precise, carefully worded description ? Unfortunately colour is not a very useful, because the same species of snake can show a wide variation in colour A guess for this snake, more likely to be wrong than right, is a Mozambique spitting cobra, Naja mossambica ( or similar (eg Naja pallida, but Polokwane is very southerly to find this species there). Your best bet is to visit the local snake park and ask a local expert, or browse the internet looking for pictures, having typed some relevant words to search with. Let me know what you find out !
