You are correct. your optical lens assembly has failed. the tracking motor and lens are both burned out at this point. it is cheaper to just replace the entire DVD-ROM in this case.

You can purchase the optical lens assembly separate but, this repair is very hard to pull off if you are not a skilled Microsoft tech. replacing the entire drive is simple and easy. its plug n play.

Xbox 360 wont read games

Hello Shawn Francis,

This problem happens to a very high percentage of consumers of the Microsoft Xbox 360 Console, so there is no need to fret. The "Open Tray" problem is a common problem, thus' there is a way you can fix it. Most solutions require you to open the console, unless the solution is banging on the top of the console, which I don't recommend.

- Reader -- When your Xbox 360 console is opened, open the disk tray and inspect the reader. This may be dirty. Try to clean it off with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. There is NO need to assemble the xbox back together when doing each step. Plug in all needed cables into the Xbox 360 and try BEFORE you re-assemble it.

- Magnet -- Inspect the top cover of the disk tray and you will see a black circle, and on the other side, (underneath the sticker,) a silver circle. That silver circle is the magnet that keeps a game disc in place as it spins. It may be out of place, and causing the game disc to move everywhere, not letting the reader read it. There are several methods to take the magnet and the black holder off of the disc tray top cover, just try a YouTube search. Once that is off, you can place the magnet and the black cover onto the Xbox 360 disc spinner, and the disc tray problem will most likely be solved.

If you have any other problems, or concerns, feel free to contact me at any time.

I've tryed putting xbox360 games in a xbox360 but it sais open tray

The XBox 360 is a wonderful video game console, however, with heavy usage, the laser (and/or other components in the drive) will eventually burn out. The first signs of the laser starting to burn out is that your game will start freezing during game play. Eventually the games will stop reading altogether and you will get an "OPEN TRAY" message when you put a disc in and close the tray. What this means is that the XBox 360 thinks that there is no disc in the system.

You can find more information about this issue, find parts to repair it, or send your system to repair all at the following website:

The warranty on the XBox 360 is ONE YEAR. If you have had it for more than a year, there is no more warranty to be void. You can open it.

XBOX 360 cd rom is not reading discs

1. Make sure you REMOVE any discs from your XBOX' tray. 3. Turn on the console again, either by using the controller or the POWER button (NOT the EJECT button) and WAIT for the initial XBOX setup. ... This fixes the OPEN TRAY error 100 % of the time on my XBOX 360. XBOX 360 cd rom is not reading discs Google Search

Microsoft Xbox have some common problem like red lights, E74 and Read Disc Error. Microsoft is providing extended warranty for red lights problem, Means you will have to spend some money in order to get this problem repaired from Microsoft also you will have to wait for 3-4 weeks to get your Xbox back.
