SOURCE: Iron No Longer Heats Up

Recommended solution, gently shake, did not work.

Considering the iron was at a minimum two years old, I decided to purchase another Rowenta. I found the recommended solution documented on a FAQ sheet enclosed with the new iron.

I actually own another Rowenta iron (I now have three) that has the same issue. I will send one iron, the one manufactured in Germany, to a Rowenta Service Center to see if can be repaired - it was the first Rowenta iron I purchased and it provided several good years of service.

More complete answer...
If you are having steam problems then the cartridge needs changing.

I phoned them (0161 652 1211) and they do sell the cartridge for £5.99 including delivery but are out of stock for a couple of weeks. You have to send them a cheque or postal orders. Good luck.

Send Cheque for £5.99 for each cartridge with note of model etc.

SOURCE: Iron spits out rusty water. The iron is a Rowenta

Fill it with a mix of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Let it set for 30 minutes and steam it out for about 2 minutes. Unplug it and dump it. After it cools colpletely, fill it with water and steam it out. The rust is coming from your water supply, not the iron.

SOURCE: My iron smells bad and transfers the smell to

Hey, You have a "Mildew" issue. Just like leaving clothes in the washer too long before putting them into the dryer. If you read your iron's manual, it is recommended to use "Distilled" water...not tap water. Tap water has impurities...Distilled water does not. Here's the fix...MAKE SURE YOU ARE HOME WHEN YOU DO THIS! Get distilled water (From Grocery Store) Mix 1/2 cup distilled water with 1/2 cup vinegar. Put this into your iron and leave it on. To help it along, push the "Steam" button frequently. You can do this several times...the acid in the vinegar will clean out the residue. Once this is done, fill the iron with water, add a couple of drops of lemon juice and you'll be good to go. I know this to be fact...just did it myself : )

I HAVE AN OLD BLACK AND DECKER 300 QUICK AND EASY IRON. DOES IT CONTAIN MERCURY?

I just looked up the manual. Unfortunately the best way to find out is to contact B&D.

This is from a recycling website.
Purpose of the Mercury: The reason that mercury tilt switches were widely used in irons and other appliances was because of the conductive and liquid-like properties of mercury. In a mercury tilt switch, as the switch is "tilted" the mercury flows with the switch to complete the circuit by conducting electricity and turning the appliance on or off. In irons the mercury switch controls an electronic shut-off timer, constantly resetting the timer when the iron is in motion. If a person leaves the iron turned on and motionless, the automatic shut-off timer turns the iron off after a certain amount of time, reducing the risk of a fire. If an iron falls, this feature will also prevent it from continuing to release heat potentially causing a burn or fire.
Potential Hazards: As long as the iron remains intact, there is a low probability that there would be a mercury release.
Recycling/Disposal: There is no easy way to identify whether or not an iron contains a mercury tilt switch. However, if the iron is more than 10 years old and it contains an automatic shut-off, consumers should assume that it contains a mercury switch and dispose of it properly.

Unfortunately, they keep referring to 10 years old, but it doesn't say when this information was written up. If it was written in say 2006, then it would be referring to 20 year old irons.

It seems like it might be thermostat or thermal fuse that is not working properly.

Shark g1468 auto shut off (iron won't come/stay on)

First let me say I HATE AUTO SHUT OFF!!! It sounds like it has wore out. the computer part that tells it when to shut off it not working. It would be cheaper to buy a new one vs fixing yours. If I were you, find an older iron that has LOTS of steam vents and NO AUTO SHUTOFF at your local goodwill, thrift store or garage sale.

I plug the iron in , 5 minutes later it turns off ! Is that a auto shut-off problem or something else

The iron has an auto shut off of usually 8 minutes. The iron will automatically turn on if you move the iron. If this does not answer your concern, let me know and we can look for a solution. Thanks.

Trips circuit breaker after 10 minutes of use

This iron is 1500 watts. On a 120 volt breaker, that's about 12.5 amps. Check to see what else is on this breaker. A 1500 watt space heater or a washing machine combined with this iron will pop a 15 or 20 amp breaker.

It shuts itself off

The SHARK ELECTRONIC Iron is equipped with an electronic auto-off. The electronic auto-off switches the iron off if it has been left standing unmoved in any position (sideways, flat or upright) for approximately 7-9 minutes. A red light on the LED display panel will flash when the iron switches itself off. (Fig. 7) To switch the iron back on, just shake the iron side-to-side several times.

My Iron keeps turning off while I'm ironing

First I called Black and Decker. No help there, just a very condescending man on the other end of the phone who finally put me on hold for more than 10 minutes. I hung up, and went to the store where I purchased the iron and without a receipt they listened to the explanation and exchanged it for the exact same new iron. Now THAT'S customer service.

Turns off after 10-15 seconds. Shake and it comes on briefly

This is a problem with a lot of Rowenta irons. It is the auto shut off that is not working properly and the only way to fix it is to have it disassembled and the switch hardwired to be on whenever the iron it plugged in. It is a thermal metal switch and it just stops working and then the iron will not turn on and the yellow light blinks.
