Land line won't hang up

I've unplugged the phone and all various cords from one another at this point, and the line is still in use after i plug it back in. i even reset the base station and handset.

SOURCE: Cordless Handsets don't work

in manual it states that you need to give permission on corded base for handset to link to cordless phone.

If you cannot register the handset then here are some possible causes and solutions for them.

Cause 1:The handset and the base station were not prepared for registration.
Solution: Unplug and then plug in the power adapter.

Cause2:The handset or the base station has not been entered into registration mode.
Solution: See User Manual for correct registration of base station and handset.

Cause3:The base station is registered full.
Solution: Press [Page Key] on the base station to page the registered handsets, then perform the deregistration operation. Finally, register the handset you want to use.

Here is few more of additional info. if you want:

Register the Handset to the Base Step 1:
Place the accessory handset in the base station of the system. For some simple systems this may be all you need to do to register the new handset. If so, the LCD screen will read "Registration Complete."
Step 2:
Press the "menu" button on the base station, scroll down to "register handset" and press "ok."
Step 3:
Press and hold either "#" or "OK" (depending on the brand) on your handset until your hear the indicator tone. At this time the LCD should confirm the handset is registered.
Reset Handsets with the Base Step 1:
Clear the registration information from the base if you want to register your handset to a new base.
Step 2:
Hold [] and [#] down on the base for a minimum of 5 seconds or until the "System Reset" menu appears.
Step 3:
Choose the "deregister" option from the menu and scroll down to the handset you wish to remove.
Step 4:
Press "OK" to de-register the correct handset. Press "yes" when you are asked if you are sure, and wait for the confirmation tone.
Reset Handsets without the Base Step 1:
Hold [] and [#] down on the phone for a minimum of 5 seconds until the "System Reset" menu appears.
Step 2:
Choose the "base unavailable" menu, select "yes" and press the "OK" button.

eventually contacted the BT team via telephone and apparently this is a common problem when using BT products with Talktalk & Virgin. To overcome this in the majority of cases, dial 1571 and connect to your voicemail, listen to the options and finally delete all messages. Hope this can be added to your list of solutions.

SOURCE: Uniden DSS7855+1, flashing ''welcome! please wait...'', wont work

This is not a direct solution to your problem, but a workaround for a similar situation. I have two headsets and two charging stations. One of the headsets was stuck with the message ''Welcome! please wait''. When I put the phone on the charging station it usually sits on nothing would happen, but when I put it on the other station the phone came back to life. The non-working charging station will still charge the phone so it is worth keeping.

What to do when the power is not stable

I'm not sure if you mean (1) your utility power supply is not stable or (2) your router power supply is not stable.
If (1) you can purchase an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). A line interactive unit will probably best.
If (2) the problem may be a loose or damaged power cord. Try jiggling the power cord at various points. Breaks usually occur near plugs but can occur anywhere, especially if you have biting animals around. Sometimes power plug pins can be bent slightly to improve connections. Make sure the power cord is unplugged before trying this!

How to fix phone line problem

1. Check your connection. Make sure your phone is connected to the phone line.
2. Change phones. Plug a corded phone into the phone line where you are experiencing problems. If the problem is resolved, the problem might be your phone, not the line; if it's a portable phone, it could have a signal problem. Make sure to change phone cords along with the phone to rule out problems with a phone cord.
3.Disconnect all extra phone equipment that plugs into your phone line, including modems, fax machines and additional phones. Leave only one corded phone plugged into your phone line. If the problem still occurs, plug your phone into every phone jack in your home to verify the problem is throughout your home and not isolated to one outlet. If your problem was resolved by unplugging devices, attach each device, one by one, to see if the problem returns. If it returns when you plug in one device, you know your problem is with the device.
  • 4.Call from an outside line. You can call from a cell phone or another land-based phone line. If the problem still exists, the problem may reside in the phone lines outside your home.
  • 5.If steps 1 through 4 do not fix your phone line problem, call the phone company from an alternative phone line. Discuss the problem you are having with your phone line and all the steps you have taken to check the phone line for problems. Your phone company will probably call your phone line to run some diagnostic tests. Based on these tests, they can determine if the problem is inside or outside your home. If the problem is inside your home, you might need a professional to diagnose the problem using line-testing equipment. If the problem is in the line outside your home, the phone company is usually responsible for fixing the problem.

    Unplug the phone from the 110-AC source for maybe 30 seconds, then plug-in to let it boot up again. FYI, your land line becomes useless with cordless phones when the 110-AC power goes out. Advice you keep an old-school corded phone handy nearby to plug into the RJ-11 phone jack as a backup when household power goes out. The RJ-11 wiring includes power, which provides voltage power to old-school corded telephones. You can procure old-school corded phones really cheap from your neighborhood thrift stores.

    Unplug the line cord. While holding down the * and # keys, plug the line cord back in. Release the * and # keys.

    Follow the directions on-screen, which will test all display modes, buttons, and sounds for both red and green colored LEDs.

    If the feature button continues to flash, press it and then lift the handset and hang up.

    Can you use the nortel t7316e on a normal land-line..? I've noticed if I plug it in to a land-line that the top left red light flickers on and off, along with the microphone button bottom left and the...

    You get around the problem by unpluging the phone and taking it back to wherever you got it, or going out and buying a CICS, MICS, or BCM cabinet to plug the phone into.

    A Multi-line digital phone doesn't operate on a POTS telephone line.

    L7780 cannot get dial tone on 2-line outlet. Are there any work arounds to this problem?

    There is a problem either with the Line Interface Unit (LIU, also known as the fax/phone line connector) or the fax hardware, because the unit is having problems sending or receiving faxes. The unit may hang on "Initializing." This document explains how to troubleshoot the LIU and fax hardware. SOLUTION: Please perform the following: Front panel hangs on "Initializing"
    1. Pull the power cord connector from the back of the base unit to recover from the error.
    2. Unplug the LIU from the back of the ADF. It is located on the left side (facing it), and is where you plug in the telephone lines.
    3. Plug the power cord back in, power it up, and see if it hangs without the LIU inserted.
    4. If it does not hang without the LIU inserted, power the unit down, plug the LIU back in, and power it back up. If it hangs, the LIU is faulty.
    5. If it does hang without the LIU attached, unplug the ADF from the base and see if it hangs. If it does, the base is faulty.
    Testing the LIU The primary test for the LIU is whether or not you get a dial tone. Sometimes, you need to re-seat the phone line several times to get a good connection. If after trying the things below, there is still no dial tone, or initialization hangs, the LIU may need to be replaced.
    1. Verify that the phone line is connected directly from the wall jack to the plug in the LIU that says "To Wall Jack."
    2. Verify that the LIU is plugged securely into the product. If it is not, there will be a message at power-up saying the LIU is not connected. If it is, the date and time will display.
    3. If the LIU was re-seated, cycle the power on the unit. The unit should display the date and time.
    4. Unplug all other accessories, like a telephone answering machine or modem. If the LIU appears to work fine after unplugging them, these accessories may be interfering.
    5. Place a document in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). The display will flash "Document Loaded."
    6. Press Start Fax to verify there is a dial tone. If so, try sending a fax.
    7. If there is not a dial tone, unplug the product from the wall jack, and plug in a regular telephone to verify there is a dial tone at the wall jack.
    8. If there is no dial tone on the telephone, the wall jack or phone line may be faulty

    If it is a corded phone it might be the rj9 connectors from the handset to the base unit. Replace the curly cord and make sure it is plugged in firmly. ( Most cords works with most phones ). It might also be the rj11 connectors on the cord from the phone to the jack / wall socket. Again replace the cord.
    If it is a cordless phone also try to change the channel ( usually a button marked CH or Channel)
