Question about Computers & Internet
My computer screen is frozen and it will not recognize my wired mouse. I've plugged the mouse into another usb port without any luck. I was able to boot up the computer and get to the desk top by using the arrows but I cannot use the mouse to click onto any icons. Is this a mouse problem or something eles I might have missed.
I am assuming you use Windows XP.
Try deleting the mouse's drivers in your computer and let it re-detect them.
Right-Clickie MyComputer and drop down to the last option of Properties.
The 2nd Tab should be HardWare. On that page, click Device Manager. Scroll down the list to find the Mouse Driver, or MICE.
Expand the list. Highlight the Mouse and right-clickie it. Select UNINSTALL.
Reboot your computer.
When it all comes back up - if you mouse is still being dorky - then it is either your USB driver [same as above, only delete the USB Root Hubs (all of them) and let that re-detect upon reboot] -
You mouse is dead. Try a friend's mouse.
If the friend's mouse works - Buy a new one. They are $10 at WalMart.
You can do this in any order ... Try a friend's mouse, delete USB hubs & reboot, delete mouse drivers & reboot.
One of the three is your problem. :)
(There is a very small chance that your USB hub has actually suffered a HARDWARE failure.)
