SOURCE: Printer will not use cyan
Well I just bought a brand new Kodak 8500 and purchased a few boxes of the 25 1400 print kits after getting it I thought it would be as easy as the Kodak Easyshare 4x6 printers BUT thought different after trying my first box of 25. I got 10 good prints out of 25 due to paper jams after 2 passes. I did the alcohol thing on the LED and sensor and that worked good for 1 full box of 25.
I then loaded a box of 50 8500 ribbon and paper same problem more paper jams after 2 passes wasting more $$$.
I did the whole routine as stated above and after taking the whole darn thing apart I did 1 more mod. I turned the potentiomter 1/2 of a turn but then drilled a small 1/2 hole in the forward plate where that pot is and reamed it out to over 3/4 on and inch thus if you need to make further adjustments you do not have to take the whole thing apart again, just the lower front cover. Because when the front cover is removed with the 5 screws and not 4 the whole darn circuit board falls out and its hard to get the plastic protective strips covering the top and bottom to align back up to slide it back in place. SO with the hole drilled there you do not have to bother with that ever again. After doing the les than 1/4 of a turn I still had a problem and yes I did put it all back together,
BUT at this point I removed the lower front cover and had access
to the pot again and moved it another 1/4 of an inch clockwise installed the 2 screws tried again and I ran a whole box of 50 without a problem.
I don't know if I'll have anymore problems but If I do I'll post it.

SOURCE: My black is really faded,
The PHOTO mode is for printing grayscale photographs. Printed letters using PHOTO mode may appear faint because PHOTO mode is optimized for halftones. See if there is a TEXT or LETTER print mode, and try printing on that setting. If printed letters are still faint, you may have to go into ADVANCED PRINTER PREFERENCES, and see if the TONER SAVE mode is on. If it is, turn TONER SAVE off. Also, try changing the DPI image density, or try other adjustments in the ADVANCED PRINTER PREFERENCES MODE.

This sort of thing is usually due to dust/dirt on the sensor that detects the gaps in the dye-sub film. Half of the sensor pair is in cover that flips up to replace the ribbon, the other half is under the plastic bar. I clean them with a dry Q-tip or blow them off with canned air.

This is for Kodak AiO printer that has home center software installed
1.On your computer, start the KODAK AiO Home Center software.
2.Click the Help (?) icon located at the upper-right corner of the Home Center window
3.From the Help toolbar, select Maintenance.
4.Click Printhead Cleaning, and wait for the printer to complete the cleaning.
If there is NO Kodak AiO home Center software installed
1. 5100 printer HOME CENTER should be use or open the printer access door wait for the printhead to move at the middle then close the printer access door forcing the printehead to eject ink on the printhead nozzle
2.5300 & 5500 printer press the MENU button > select CLEAN PRINTHEAD > then select BASIC/DEEP CLEAN
3. ESP3 printer [press and hold at the same time COPY and CANCEL button for atleast 10 sec or until the printer start moving]

Call Kodak @1800 421 6699 and get a new printhead free of cost.....Printhead has gone bad and it is the part in which we install the ink cartridges. It takes the ink out of the cartridges and spit the ink on the papers,...Cheers and Enjoy.
