Question about Pure Digital Flip Video Ultra Camcorder

Open Question

Software needs to be re-installed

***From "Read Me" file*** The Flip Video Program was inexplicably deleted from your camcorder. You will no longer be able to use it to automatically play back, save, share or delete your videos. You can still use your videos without the program, as long as you have already installed the video compatibility software. If you would like to reinstall the Flip Video Program or the video compatibility software, contact the Pure Digital Customer Service Center: - Web: www.theflip.com/support - Email: inquiry@puredigitalinc.com To use videos on your Windows computer if the video compatibility software was already installed: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Connect the Flip Video Camcorder to an available USB port on your computer 2. Open My Computer and double-click the FLIPVIDEO icon. A window should appear that displays the contents of your camcorder. 3. Double-click the DCIM folder. 4. Double-click the 100VIDEO folder. All of the videos on your camcorder are stored in this folder. For each video you recorded, you will find a video file in .AVI format. a. To play back your videos, double-click on any video file. Your video will play back in the default Media Player installed on your computer. b. To save videos, select the videos that you would like to save and drag them to the folder or location where you would like to save them on your computer. c. To share videos, upload them to a video sharing website such as AOL Video (video.aol.com) or YouTube (www.youtube.com), and use the sharing features on the website to email links to your family and friends. NOTE: It is not recommended that you email videos using a regular email program to browse and attach your video files. Large email attachments are not reliably delivered by most email systems, and recipients of your videos will not be able to view your videos without first purchasing and installing video compatibility software. SOURCE: Lost storage capacity

I had the same exact problem... then someone told me the fix... you have to "empty trash" on your computer (when the camcorder is plugged into your USB) - this will "empty" the trash on your computer, but also empty on your flip too...

I guess what happens when you delete all files from the "100 Video" file is that your camcorder moves all files into its own "trash" (on the device) - so the camera "shows" that there are no videos, but in reality, they are still on the flash memory on the device..

hope this makes sense and works for you.

I have the same problem....someone please post solution!
I've tried systematically deleting each of the database type files on the Flip (while keeping a saved copy on my computer hard drive). This doesn't seem to help. I've just got one minute of video it will allow me to shoot!!!!!

SOURCE: My Flip video Error code 17,2 - won't connect to software

Tech Support at least found a solution to upload.

Remove the battery from the Flip, then insert into PC. You may have to manually uninstall the driver association during the previous hardware failures (Use Control Panel, Device Manager, Hardware, USB Devices - then right click the yellow ? icon to uninstall).

If you are lucky, you will now see your videos. Upload to your PC, then insert the battery pack while connected. Unplug the Flip, wait 10 seconds, and try again.

If this solves your problem, charge by connecting to a PC for 6 hours to make sure you have a full battery charge.

What's your problem?need to recover deleted files from mino flipcam

You can recover deleted files with this
1. Do not save any new videos into the flip camera.
2. Connect it with computer. You should see it shown as a drive letter (like H:) in My Computer.
3. Download data recovery software, recommended one is Tenorshare Data Recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked)
http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoverystandard.htm
4. Install and open the program, select your memory drive, and click 'Start' button to start scanning process which will find your deleted videos.

I accidently deleted a video from my flip video camera. I bought and recovered the files with smartundelete program but it only play one file. The rest will not play. One is really important to me. What...

You may try this video recovery software called asoftech data recovery which helped me before. You can download trial for free
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/

Please be noted that your flip camera memory should show as a drive letter in your explorer, if not, you need to take out your memory card and connect using a card reader, or plug-in to card reader slot if there's any on your computer.

Deleted our video on our flip via the computer before downloading

You can recover the deleted videos provided that the data are not overwritten(if you continue using the camcorder, it might).

Deleting files(like videos or photos) from camcorder is just like clearing the recycle bin or Trash on your comptuter. The data itself isn't deleted, just the area containing the deleted data is also now marked as free space so it is available for any new data to be written there instead. The REAL data is still there. As a result a simple delete won't make your videos erased permanently.

Then you need opt for a third party data recovery software.

If you are running Windows, try this software(recover photos, VIDEOS and music)
For Apple Mac OS X, try this Mac data recovery software.

Install the program on your computer (choose the right version based on the operation system you are running), then connect your camcorder (memory card or HDD) to the computer and start to recover your deleted videos. I am sure you can operate the recovery on your own. Good luck.

I had success with this camcorder recovery software named asoftech data recovery before

You need to take out the memory card or hard disk from camcorder, and then connect the memory card or hard disk to computer, you can then use asoftech data recovery software to recover lost videos.

Flip share video application unexpectedly quits

Solved - I had the same problem.

The original "Flip Video For PC" software that came preinstalled on my Flip worked fine. But after being nagged to "upgrade" to FlipShare, I experienced the same crash problem mentioned here. Even worse, the FlipShare installation nuked the original program files from the Flip!

In my case, I think my computer's processor did not meet the minimum system requirements of the newer FlipShare software. The original "Flip Video For PC" software requires a 2Ghz P4 or higher; the FlipShare software says it requires a dual-core 4Ghz or higher. So when the FlipShare software tries to load the ippvideodecoder.ax module on an under-powered processor, it just crashes. Bad design.

I bet that most of the people posting this same problem here have processors that are "borderline".

Anyway, here's how to get the original Flip Video software back and re-install it on your computer:

Disclaimer: I assume no responsibility if you screw up your Flip or lose your videos. I can only tell you this method worked for me.

1) Use Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs to uninstall FlipShare and 3vix.

2) Download "Flip Video For PC" v3.7 from here:
http://www.theflip.com/app/prius/37/update/

3) Follow the written instructions here for formatting your Flip and reinstalling the software:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYc8N3dmxhU

Important: this guy tells you how to back up any existing videos on your Flip BEFORE you format it.

After formatting, I had some initial trouble with the installation not finding my (empty) Flip. Here's a workaround: the installation creates a folder called "FlipVideo Updater Support Files", and within that a subfolder called "files_to_install". Copy the entire contents of that subfolder to the root of your Flip. Re-run the installation and it should now be recognized.

4) Bonus: once you've got the old software reinstalled and working, you may want to disable the annoying "Upgrade To FlipShare" nag screen that bugs you every time you run the software. Simply browse your Flip and delete the following file:

[drive letter]\System\VIEWER\PD\checkForUpdate.txt

No more nag screen!

I hope this info is helpful to those who experienced the same problem. Flip tech support people are absolutely clueless.

best,
JohnB

FLIP ULTRA FILES DELETED, CAN THEY BE RESTORED

I have had success with this flip camera recovery software... Download the program
Video Recovery Software

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Next" and wait for it to do it's magic.
