SOURCE: I have an old Guardian Power floor model drill press and do not know how to change belt positions to change speed. help please.

See the picture below. The small red circle shows the locking screw on the right side of the drill. There is another locking screw on the left side of the drill. Loosen them both a half turn. The larger red oval is the handle to pull the motor closer to the spindle, thereby loosening the belt. Once loosened, it is easy to move the belt. Then use the handle to push the motor back, which tightens the belt. Keep pushing on that handle with your right hand while you tighten the locking screw on the left side of the drill with your left hand. Once you have that tight then tighten the right side locking screw.
Good luck! I hope this helps.

Most drill press' have cover on the top when opened expose two different sized pulleys. Speed is adjusted by changing to different combinations. The speed is usually shown inside the lid on a chart with the different combinations of pulleys. Hope this helps.

I have no belts on this drill press and can't seem to find the size or length of them

You don't give make and model, but a quick look shows these links. For length, pull string tight around the pulleys with slipknot. Use the pulley release lever to remove the string, cut it and pull it taught. Measure the length and subtract a half inch. With a make and model, it would be easy.

Where can I find the old model master craft batterys

If you do a local online search, you can probably find a battery store that will either provide you with a new one or rebuild your current one.
IMO, just watch the sales, you'll probably find a drill/battery/charger a lot cheaper than going the battery store route.

Your best bet is to take the old belt with you when you shop for a new one. The sales clerk should be able to match it up.

Changing speeds on Powermatic Drill Press

Katie,
Refer to the picture below. Loosen the locknuts (the one on the right side of the drill is shown, there is another on the left side). Use the lever to move the motor toward you, thereby loosening the drive belt(s). Open the top cover to expose the belt(s) and sheaves (most people incorrectly call them pulleys). You might have one belt and two sheaves, or you have two belts and three sheaves. The drill will go fastest when the belt is on the biggest motor sheave and the smallest sheave on the drill spindle. Of course the opposite sizes apply for the slowest speeds. Make sure the belt uses a pair of sheaves that are at the same height as each other (the belt has to stay in one plane). Now tighten the belt(s) by pushing the lever pretty hard away from you, and while holding it with your right hand tighten the left side locknut with your left hand. Now tighten the right locknut. Close the cover. ----- OK, so now you know how to CHANGE speeds, what about drilling glass? This can be tricky. You must use a pretty slow speed (maybe the slowest, depending on the size of hole you are drilling. And you must keep the spot you are drilling flooded with water to keep the glass cool. And you must apply pretty gentle pressure. And the use of a drill bit intended for drilling glass helps a lot. And don't try the first hole in something expensive! Practice on something disposable first. Take your time. AND WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!
Good luck!

Hi, We have a C188FX Journeyman drill press but no manual. we don't know how to change the speed. Can you help? We would like to find a manual for future questions as well.

Open the top and move the belt to different wheels. There are different size wheels the belt rides on for multible speeds.

Drill Presses Models

When shopping for a drill press, you'll have to choose between two basic models: 1. Bench-top drill presses mount directly to a workbench or on their own stands. Their compact size makes bench-top models good choices for small shops. 2. Floor-model drill presses usually have more powerful motors, more attachments/accessories and greater material handling capacities than bench-tops. The extra versatility makes floor models good choices for serious DIY and commercial shops.
