Ok, sounds like it could be that your Class Filters are missing or corrupt. Re-install your motherboard/chipset drivers, hopefully this will solve the problem.

If your not sure, let me know what motherboard you have, and what Operating System you are running. I'll find them and post the link for you.

I get the disk dirty message when I try to play a DVD R disk that I just recorded with a Sony VRD-MC6 video converter. It states in the book that some players will not accept DVD R disks, is that what is...

IT MIGHT BE. BUT MOST OF THE NEWER PLAYERS WILL PLAY ALL TYPES OF DISKS. I WOULD FIRST TRY TO CHANGE YOU BRAND OF DVD R'S. I HAVE USED MEMOREX DVD+R FOR ALMOST 10 YEARS AND I HAVE ONLY HAD 3 BAD DISKS BUT I BURN ABOUT 4-8 MOVIES A WEEK. SO I COUNT MYSELF LUCKY. PLUS ANY ONE WHO BORROWS A MOVIE HAS NEVER COMPLAINED. HOPE THAT HELPS IF NOT SHOOT ME A RESPONSE AND I'LL GIVE YOU SOME MORE TIPS.

Recommended Media When Using the VRD-MC3

OK, I purchased this device in order to tranfer/preserve stacks of old 8mm and VHS tapes to DVD, quickly, without any desire to perform any editing. I have created several DVD's using the PC and find this to be extremely time consuming, although you have total editing control. I started out with the VRD-MC3 using Memorex inkjet printable DVD+R (16X) blank media (not on Sony's suggested media list) and met with limited success. Was using SP mode in order to get 2 hrs worth of tape on to 1 DVD. After awhlie I started experiencing the dredded "finalize disc" errors, which it couldn't do after sitting there for 2 hrs, and ended up with a few coasters. In talking with Sony, they felt this was most likely attributable to bad media and recommend using a few different brands such as their own, TDK, Verbatim, Maxell. So, I thought I'd try Sony DVD+R (1-16x) blank DVD media and gave it a try, feeling that if it didn't work well with their own media, then it most likely wouldn't do well with any other brand either. I have met with success using this media and had no problems recording tapes that produced coasters the first time. Overall I'm happy with this product but it's finicky and seems to work best if you stick to using Sony's products.

Motorola VIP1216 DVR and Sony VRD-MC5 Connections for Recording?

I have the same problem currently. I have successfully recorded to the Sony CM5 in the past from my DVR, but no longer can. I have Comcast and wonder if they have changed the DVR firmware and blocked output. Also some broadcasts have something in the signal to stop recording. I got half of my program done, and can't record the rest on DVD. I will try to DVR local news, then record to the Sony, to see if it's a signal issue or something with the Sony. I haven't tried to record from a VCR.

"Finalize Error" Sony DVDirect VRD-VC20

I had similar problem (I have same model of Sony) on my dvr trying to record some movies, in my case it would start recording for a sec and then it would stop, problem in my case is that some of channels on satelite are scrambled and id doesn't allow even that they were stored on my dvr to get them on dvd drive, you can get descrambler on ebay but I just gave up cause it's too much hassle. Maybe you have similar problem cause I don't know who is your tv provider. Does your drive work on pc??? If so probably it is protection that is messing with your finallazing! I hope you find this helpful! By the way check my problem if you have any idea how to solve it I would very appreciate it! Nick
