Question about Emerson EWR20V4 DVD Recorder/VCR

Repeating my previous answer:
I haven't been able to use my Emerson EWR20V4 for a long time, but as I recall, the easiest way is to cue the tape to your desired starting point, pause, then hit the record button on the panel's DVD side, let it spool up & start recording, then unpause the tape. If desired, I think you can hit the DVD record button again to set 1/2-hr. increments before the recording will stop.

SOURCE: Emerson DVD Recorder EWR20V
The problem is likely that you are using 8x/2x media. Though the booklet does not say it, the burner does not support anything above 4x for DVD-R and 1x for DVD-RW. Calling their tech support can (possibly) get an update for this problem. Otherwise, the burner cannot use anything but outdated media.

While it is true that not all dvd players will play, record, or even acknowledge some media I don't think you need a firmware.4X -16X is the max . write speed of the DVD disc. It should be OK with slower speed machines. What did you use before? Good Luck.

What type of dvd's are you trying to burn? Are these copyright protected dvd's? IF they are you will not be able to play them on recorders. You will need to burn them from a computer. The DVD recorders have a built in security system that prevents them from being played on players to avoid copyright infringement.
