Some mower in the past had points and condenser. This bolt may be what they used to stop up the hole.
Not being able to see what you are looking at makes it hard to tell what it is. If the mower is running why mess with it.

I have a Tecumseh vertical shaft (TVM195 1502630 (C) )electric start engine, would like to change it to recoil start, what parts do I need?

Will try to answer your question.First your shroud cover that cover flywheel. Does it have threaded holes to bolt recoil on it. If not you will need to find a donor engine the same size. On donor engine remove shroud then remove bolt holding flywheel there will be a washer and recoil cup remove both. Remove other shroud and safety screen then flywheel nut and install donor parts the same way and should be all you need to do. One thing... Check flywheel for locking hole or slot for recoil cup so it does slip when pull recoil cord. If there is no way to do this you will need to change flywheel too.But if there is no teeth for electric starter you will lose that option altogether for electric start if you want both.

How to replace coil on honda hrs21 mower

My hrs21 flywheel is on the bottom of the deck on top of blade. I used the 10mm bolt holes to try and push the wheel off and out of the shaft over an hour and it wouldnt budge. Never saw one this bad ever. Im going to get an air hammer/chissel with a pointed tip and put it on the shafts end while prying up with a screw driver or pry bar under the wheel. It will come right off then I know. Mercy these are on tight though...WOW!

8HP Tecumseh with no spark

Check the gap between the coil and the flywheel. You can fold a dollar bill over a few times (3 or 4 layers thick) , place it against the flywheel , **** the coil up to it , and then tighten down the coil. This will give you a good clearance between the coil and flywheel and promote good spark.

Essentially I am suggesting you use the folded dollar bill to set the coil to flywheel distance/gap.

If it still doesn't work, I am at a loss. Is this a multi cylinder engine ? If so , does it have points or electronic ignition ?

I was going to check points on tecumseh lawn mower took flywheel off and no points. someone else had worked on it last. Do you have a diagram Icould look at.

It has a CDI box now, if the spark quit then replace the flywheel key and make sure the coil is not accidentally grounded and test it again.

Broken recoil start on tecumseh 6.5 hp

broken cord? remove bolts holding recoil housing.lift housing straight up,you may have to wiggle it a bit.turn housing over, remove any cord thats left, note how & where it connects to the spool.wind the spool [and consquently the spring under it]in the direction the cord would turn it as pulled when starting.hold spool tight.thread new cord through hole in housing.let spool turn back just enough to attach new cord.hold cord & housing, let spring "re-coil" cord slowly.check for smooth operation.replace may need to pull cord slightly to align 'square' shaft w/hole in spool.only after you are satisfied with the operation of it adjust length of cord by pushing excess cord through the handle, tie a new knot, then cut off excess,if any.

I have what I think is a tecumseh 9 h.p.gas engine with electric 110volt starter, how do I identify this motor, the only numbers I see on the motor are on the crank case#19-0-201 on the electric starter#2244...

To identify the engine, look on the blower housing (the half round - half rectangular piece covering the flywheel), the numbers should be stamped into the metal somewhere.
As for the magnets inside the flywheel, if you are talking about the ones that go against the inner circumference, you cannot replace them. They have to be in an EXACT location to retain the balance of the flywheel and if they are for the magneto they have to be located so that they trigger your spark at the exact right timing of the engine. Best solution is to purchase a new flywheel.

  3. Raise and support vehicle.
  4. Remove clutch release lever dust shield.
  5. Disconnect clutch release lever cable from clutch release shaft.
  6. Remove retaining clip, then clutch release lever cable from flywheel housing.
  7. Remove starter motor from flywheel housing, then engine rear plate to front lower flywheel housing bolts.

    2. Bent, damaged or missing flywheel housing to block dowels must be replaced.
    3. tart clutch pressure plate bolts but do not tighten.
    4. Avoid touching clutch disc face, dropping parts or contaminating parts with oil or grease.
    5. Align clutch disc using suitable alignment tool inserted in pilot bearing.
    6. To avoid clutch pressure plate distortion, alternately tighten bolts a few turns at a time, until they are all tight, then tighten to specifications.

  2. Install transmission to flywheel housing.
  3. Install engine rear plate to flywheel front lower housing bolts, then connect clutch release cable to flywheel housing and connect retaining clip.
  4. Connect clutch release lever cable to clutch release shaft, then install clutch release lever dust shield.
  5. Install starter motor.
  6. Lower vehicle, then install clutch release lever cable as follows:
    1. Lift clutch pedal to disengage clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.
    2. Push clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft forward and hook end of clutch release lever cable over rear of clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.
