SOURCE: Printer Stops Printing

Hi Catlin, Sorry for the delay but I was reviewing old postings and ran across your questions. Most of my users that report this type of problem usually miss an error message showing in the printer queue icon in the task bar (lower right hand corner). If there?s nothing there I would suspect memory problems (especially if printing graphics) or perhaps a damaged printer queue. I would try deleting and reinstalling your printer from scratch. If no luck there run a configuration page and verify home much RAM the printer has installed. Post that information, your operating system and any other pertinent information and we?ll pickup from there.

SOURCE: will only print on quick print not on normal or photo

The problem could be due to your computer's Print Spooler or a possible firewall issue blocking the required processes for printing. Try the steps below to fix the problem:

    1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET STOP SPOOLER (this will stop the print spooler service)

    2. Browse to your windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ folder. You should see files there ending in .SPL and .SHD created around the time you tried to print - delete these files.

    3. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET START SPOOLER (this will restart the print spooler service)

    4. Double click the printer icon in the lower-right corner of your taskbar to examine your print job queue and browse to View -> Refresh.

However, if this is a firewall issue, please refer to this article from the Lexmark website on Processes (Executables) Utilized by Inkjet Products; A Brief Description of Their Function. Follow the steps in the article on how to allow the required process for your firewall.

Should you still need assistance, please leave a comment to my response and I'll get back to you. Should this resolves your problem, your rating will be greatly appreciated.

    How to stop printing

While your question is not quite clear, I will provide a couple of suggestions. Usually when you press the cancel button, it pauses the printer and then you must use the arrow keys to select cancel job and then press the checkmark. Also check any computers to make sure that they do not have a job in their print queue. If the printer does not send back a job complete command, sometimes the computer will keep resending the job. Failing all else, restart your computer and your printer. Are the pages that are printing gibberish or is it the correct print job? If gibberish, you might have a corrupted print driver or the file you are printing might be corrupted.

My HP 4ML has been printing fine until recently. Every print job, big or small, the first couple of pages print the pages mostly black, then start to fade the more pages I print in the same print job. ...

You didn't say that you swapped out the toner.
Let's come back to that point later.

Put paper in the manual feed tray.
    Print something.
As soon as the paper feeds halfway into the printer, open the top cover.
Pull out the toner, look down at the paper. Is it mostly black?
If the answer is yes....replace the toner.
Vacuum out the inside of the printer and print again.
I think you have a bad toner cartridge

It could be the Print Spooler service on your computer. Make sure the Printer Spooler status is Enabled/Started. Refer to this article on How to Restart or Reset the Print Spooler in Windows. Hi there
You can try see if this may do it.

Go to Start / Run and type in "services.msc" without quotation marks, then press Enter or click OK.

In the window that opens (Services) look for "Print Spooler" on the right

Right-click "Print Spooler" and select "Properties".

Click on the "Recovery" tab and change all 3 drop-down boxes to "Restart The Service".

Make sure the 2 text boxes underneath say "1" in them.

Click Ok until you are back at the Services window, close it and you're good to go.

Go back into the properties of the "Print Spooler" tab and be sure to click Start to restart the Print Spooler service and it will restart the service immediately.

The Print spooler depends on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service. Is this service disabled? Go to services.msc look for RPC. Check state: Automatic

After you have this problem again. Go to Control panel and look for administrative tools. Click on services and scroll down until you see the print spooler service.. Right click on this and select restart. Let me know if the printer then functions after this.

Will not receive print message from computer, will print test pag

Hi there, try to stop and restart the print spooler (control panel/Administrative Tools/Services, scroll down until you find Print Spooler, then double click on it. Stop button and then start), and try to print again. If that didn't solve the problem, it must be a printer drivers problem. Try to roll back the old drivers under printer properties.

How to force delete print jobs Fortunately, there is a way to delete the hung print job without having to save all your work, close all your applications, and restart your computer. Here's how (note that this is intended for Windows XP systems, but a similar approach works on other systems - if this doesn't work for you reply below with your Operating System and version):
    • Browse to Start -> Run... and type in "NET STOP SPOOLER" (this will stop the print spooler service)
    • Browse to your windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ folder
    • You should see files there ending in .SPL and .SHD created around the time you tried to print - delete these files.
    • Browse to Start -> Run... and type in "NET START SPOOLER" (this will restart the print spooler service)
    • Double click the printer icon in the lower-right corner of your taskbar to examine your print job queue and browse to View -> Refresh.
Voila :) You should see that annoying hung print job finally disappear completely and you should now be able to resume printing without having to restart your computer.
