The rotate tapemay be broken or come off one or the pullys.
Tou should take it to a tech.

My IBM Selectric II either does not type some letters or only partially types them. Sometimes the machine will type a letter and sometimes not. It happens no matter which ball is on the machine. What

First put in a mulyi part form, type on it if the carbon is ok you have have a ribbon problem. The ribbon may be very old or not properly installed or twisted.

IBM Selectric II letter printed does not correspond to the letter typed

You could have a broken element (type ball). You could also have a broken or out of adjustment rotate or tilt tape. Those are the two wire bands that control the rotation and tilt of the element.

It may be as simple as replacing the element (ball). Remove it and look for broken ao badley worn teeth on the lower edge of the ball.

My ibm selectric ii type impression is messy and sometimes missing part of the letters. I have check for proper ribbon placement and cleaned the ball element, but the impressions are still dirty looking. ...

Left Rear chrome lever with ABCDE or - marks should be towards the typist and the red ball next to the typing ballo should be moved to a higher number. Messy printing is caused by paper not being held tight against platen(black roller)

MY IBM SELECTRIC II TYPES THE WRONG LETTERS. I CHANGED THE RIBBON, AND THE CORRECT TYPE. WHEN I PUT THE ELEMENT ON, IT STARTING TYPING THE WRONG LETTERS.

Not good. You probably turned the element while removing it and if you are lucky had it come off one of the pulleys, but more likely it came off the wheel under the element. Then you will need a tech.

Selectric II type ball not rotating. from what i can see, the cables are all on their pullies. Every number letter and symbol come up wrong. Some letters type on top of each other and come up slightly...

Maybe the rotate tape slipped off either the left or right side pulley. You need to remove the platen and upper case half to fix it. If the tape (thin eighth inch metal tape that when pulled on slightly rotates the ball) is off either pulley, very carefully, without lessening tension on the tape, try to slightly rotate the ball counterclockwise which will loosen the tension on the tape and slip it back on the pulley.

Either the element isn't fully installed or you turned it while chnging it and detached the rotate tape if that's the case you need a tech.

Correcting IBM Selectric II Typewritter correcton ribbon won't engage

Selectric I and II type elements are identical (88 char) where Selectric III uses a different element (96 char). The 88 character element will have white lettering and the 96 character element will have yellow. Directly underneath the lift-up tab to remove the element will be a 3-digit number. That's the last 3 digits of the element's part number, which will be preceeded by 1167 for 88 character, or 1352 or 96 character. For example, if you have a '052" stamped on the element, and it's an 88 character style, the P/N will be 1167052.

The correcting mechanism is an intricate additional function of the backspace function. To test it/adjust it/or repair it requires the machine be hand-cycled using a hand cycle wheel which is screwed into the right hand side operational shaft. It's unlikely that an un-trained party would be successful repairing this..
