Hi. I have been having issues with my dishwasher the last month or so. There is a white powder-like residue left on dishes. I noticed it most on my silverware. At first I thought the detergent didn't rinse off completely so I did a ran it again without any detergent a couple of times. Still there. I bought some stuff that is supposed to remove build up from hard water. did that twice. Increased the amount in the rinse aid dispenser. Now I have noticed that the drying coil? is covered in a white "powder" as well. I can wipe it off with my finger. What could this be?
I had the same problem with my dishwasher. In my washer the problem was caused by a buildup of water deposits throughout the machine. I increased the temperature of the water, used three bottles of "Dishwasher Magic" and now my machine is working well. I read that the rinse aid dispensers do not disperse enough of the product for extremely hard water, the solid rinse aid dispensers work better. I know that adding a little water softener to your washer when you run it can help. If you can't find "Dishwasher Magic", you might want to try running your dishwasher with a few quarts of white vinegar to remove the deposits on the coil. You may need to clean out the deposits in your washer regularly to keep the machine working well.
I've been reading a lot lately about cleaning your dishwasher on a tight budget if indeed you want it working properly as well as clean properly. It is suggested to use ONE Kool-Aid Packet, Lemonade ONLY, and insert that into your wash dispenser to let it runs its course throught the whole cycle. I second the comment to use vinegar - great rinse & cleaner. The Kool-Aid will be great for stain removal as well. These two items together may also work to help remove underlying residue. And.. you aren't spending a lot of $$ which is great for me.
