Question about Husqvarna Garden

My husqvarna 359 chainsaw blows fuel out the exhaust when I try to start it. Just rebuilt the carburetor with a kit. Still same problem.

Clarification #1-I am trying to start the saw both ways, with and without the choke.

Solution #1 - I did install a new needle valve after the carb kit did not work. I think I may have found a part of the problem, compression is 65 over 180. The top end may be shot. The question is. Is the carb bad, and cause the top end to fail? Or did the top end fail and cause the carb to over fuel?

Installed a new piston and all is good.

You need a carburetor kit. The needle valve in the car. is stuck open. The needle valve helps to control the flow of fuel.

I don't know the answer to that, but if you have low compression, you may be better off to scrap it. but that's just my opinion.

Sorry I couldn't have been more help.

Sounds like you have put the gaskets and spacer block on the metering side of the carb together in the incorrect order. This will block the venting from the outside of the diapham to the atmosphere. The result is once the metering diaphram is pulled down and opened the needle valve it won't be able to return. Very carefully check the order and hole positions on the gaskets and spacer block.

Chainsaw stops running

When it starts to die slacken off the fuel cap enough to allow air into the tank, if it picks up again it is an issue with the fuel tank breather, if the breather is blocked it will create a vacume in the tank and stop fuel flow to the carb.

Runs if gas poured into carb. won't pick up gas to carb. please help

Check the fuel filter and air cleaner for plugging, also the muffler if the saw has seen considerable use. Check the condition of all fuel lines including the one in the tank. Inspect the primer bulb for cracks or other damage. If still won't pump fuel after the above, remove the carburetor and check the small impulse air passage down to the engine for any blown gaskets or plugged passages. I'm assuming that the engine has good compression. Be sure to use fresh fuel/oil mix. Hope some of this helps!

My husky 359 will start and run okay but stops after 5 - 10 mins of cutting and will not start again unless you use the choke, sometimes will not start again at all. I have replaced the fuel, spark plug...

Your description seems to imply improper fuel tank venting. Remove the fuel cap, then replace and try restart. If it now runs for another similar period, troubleshoot the vent. If no improvement, then check the fuel filter, fuel lines, and carburetor fasteners for tightness including the mounting fasteners to the cylinder. Does the primer bulb appear to be able to pull new fuel in when this problem occurs? Does the engine seem to be overheating? You may be having problems with the internals of the carburetor--it could be necessary to dismantle, clean and reassemble. Check especially the diaphragm in the lower section and the fuel metering valve that it controls. Go to: for a 12 page article on Walbro brand carburetor theory and troubleshooting which applies to nearly every brand of carburetor used. Hope this helps!

My husqvarna 61 starts fine and runs great for about 15 seconds and the it flat out stalls. Over and over this happens. what can i do?

Make sure the chain can be turned by hand and is well oiled. Check the muffler, fuel filter, and air cleaner for plugging. Check the condition of the fuel lines and primer button--does the primer pull fresh fuel into it when pumped? Check the carburetor fasteners for tightness including the mounting to the cylinder. If there is a rubber isolator between the carburetor and cylinder, check it for cracking or any holes. Make sure you are using modern synthetic saw oil in the fuel, not boat motor petroleum based oil. If still acting up, clean and re-kit the carburetor. Hope this helps!

Husky starts but won't run off choke. mod 359, cleaned carb, gas, new plug. parts manual doesn't show where hose from intake boot goes?

There are 2 lines from the fuel tank on my 359. The one with the fuel filter on the bottom goes to the carburetor. The second goes back down through the plastic housing and appears to be capped off underneath, probably a vent.
Illustration J shows 2 lines.
Below the carburetor the is a u shaped hose both connections are within 3/4' of one another below the carburetor. I think it is pn 537 24 65-01 on detail G. HTH
