Check wiring for single-pole timer:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-timers.html

Check if timer is rated for load... this timer is rated 1/4 Hp and will work with incandescent and CFL and small fan motors... but not rated to operate bathroom heater.
Use Spring-wound timer for heavy-amp loads like bathroom heater and 1-2 Hp motor loads

SOURCE: I installed a new Intermatic timer, model #

If the dial does not rotate but manual override works, then the timer is wired incorrectly or polarity of line is reversed or you are connecting to 240Volt line instead of 120V.
1) You have wires from breaker box reversed with wires that goes to sprinkler solenoid. Switch black wires and see if that corrects problem.
2) Check that breaker supplying voltage is 120Volt.
3) Test if black wire from breaker tests 120V to ground wire, and test that white wire from breaker tests 0 volts to ground.

Fantech FD60EM electronic timer control makes a loud buzzing sound and does not operate the fan

This timer appears to be Leviton LTB60
http://waterheatertimer.org/Countdown-timer-horsepower-ratings.html

Timer has 1 year limited warranty, evidently from manufacturer.
If timer is making humming sound, then it is defective, possibly receiving undervoltage on the line, or wiring installed incorrectly.

Switch noisy timer with one of the other timers, and see if problem follows the timer, or is related to the specific location.
Otherwise replace with LTB60 from Amazon for $24.
Or buy Intermatic Ei200 timer, or replace non-electronic with spring-wound timer such as 60-minute Intermatic FD60, or 30-minute FD30, etc.

Manual switch works timer doesn't.

Timer that worked before and stopped working: could be clock motor or trippers
New timer installation: possibly the wiring from breaker box and wire to Load are reversed.

Pool pump cannot be turned off with timer switch. Pump runs constantly. I can turn off with breaker switch but not with switch on timer.

You posted under Intermatic EI200 series countdown timer.

Intermatic EI200 series is rated for 1/4 HP.
Check nameplate on motor for HP. Pool pump is probably 1 HP.

Add a comment and say what kind of timer you are using and say specifically what you want timer to do, and I will locate correct timer for that specific need.

You can also add a contactor to the circuit.
Timer controls contactor, and contactor turns pump on-off.

Our Intermatic EI200W is 1 1/2 years old and it has stopped working the way it should. It turns on the fan unit, it runs for 5 seconds and shuts off, it can be re turned on but again it only lasts for 5...

The problem could be the Load and not the timer.

I discovered that if there is a problem on the circuit, that these electronic timers can malfunction.
Buy circuit analyzer from home center, test nearby receptacle that is on same circuit.
If there is a ground fault, for example in your light-fan-motor, you have to track this down with multimeter or some other testing device.

If the circuit is clean, and your electronic device has malfunctioned, then bad news: There are no repairs for in-wall electronic devices.

I test timers: 4-6% arrive defective. Many go bad first year or two. Some last quite a while.
Some programmable timers can be reset and the timer recovers.

Intermatic page below shows countdown timers.

Sample manual shows 1 year limited warranty for your product:

If I can make a replacement suggestion:
Manual spring-wound countdown timer lasts for 10 years because it has no electronic parts.
I have three of these and they work without a problem even on circuits that have small ground faults.
