Question about GE 24 in. Profile PDW7800 Built-in Dishwasher

Dishwasher will not fill up with water

I have a PDW7800 GE Profile dishwasher. I found the breaker kicked one afternoon. After that no water would come into the machine. I replaced the inlet valve/solenoid and the control. Still no water - $150 invested and still doesn't work. Any ideas?

    How do you check it???

  • d_scott_5 Jun 18, 2009

Removed the switch (hooked to the float) Not much to click - Just a flat piece of contact material that stays done on the switch. I jumpered the plug and it blew the breaker. Is the switch bad or do I have a bigger problem?

  • d_scott_5 Jun 19, 2009

Yes - I unplugged the switch and jumpered the plug

  • d_scott_5 Jun 19, 2009

Just replacing the switch won't help then right? Where else could the problem be??

  • d_scott_5 Jun 19, 2009

The coil in the bottom? How do you check it?

  • d_scott_5 Jun 19, 2009

That will take some work - the unit is still installed. I will have to pull it out. May not get to it until this weekend. I am looking for 0 ohm's correct?

Thanks for all the help - much appreciated. Have a great weekend!

It is unclear from your description if the wash pump starts and pushes the water around but never stops cycle or the dishwasher stops as soon as the water is filled.

If you do not hear the wash pump start then it is possible the wash motor is faulty. But if the wash pump starts and never completes the wash cycle then it is possible the heater is faulty and dishwasher is waiting for water to heat up before it can go to next cycle.

See the attached diagram for location of wash pump motor and heater.

Hope this helps you find the problem. Please rate the solution if you found it useful.

Water runs into dishwasher when machine is off and if door is open. Model PDW7800

If the only way to stop the water from coming in is to turn the main valve going to the dishwasher off then you have a bad water valve. replace it.

Dishwasher wan't fill with water

The water valve may look fine but the solenoid may not be opening to allow water in. You said that everything else works fine except no water supply to the dishwasher. This sounds like a bad soleniod valve. Check for continuity on the valve with an ohms meter after you start it. Be careful.

I set the cycle and push start and the breaker kicks off

It could actually be the breaker itself. If not, there is a "short" in the machine. The likely place for the short is the water inlet solenoid valve which is replaceable. If not there, then you need to call the repairman.

Dishwashing powder/liqud will not dissolve

Is your dishwasher filling and draining? The detergent should mix, completely with the wash water and there should be no residue of just detergent. Make certain that the machine is filling and draining properly, otherwise, call the repairman.

The panel on my ge profile ss dishwasher is not working...

At first thought, it sounds like the control board has gone bad. Make certain it is properly plugged in. If no luck there, call the repairman.

Pdw7800 rests before completeing rinse and dry cycles

It might be a glitch in the dishwasher's computer memory. Try turning off the power at the breaker box for ten seconds or so. This should clear the memory. After turning the power back on, restart the dishwasher.
