If your Comcast box has a composite output, you'll be able to record SD shows. Use RCA composite video and audio cables between the box and the recorder. You'll have to set the box to the channel you want to record and leave it on. Then set the HDD/DVD unit to record from video input (L1 rear, L2 front) for the appropriate length of time. The manual explains this. The manual is available from Funai who built the unit with the Magnavox name: . See pages 19 and 42. If your TV and/or cable box only have a limited number of video inputs/outputs, you may need to daisy chain the composite video cables from the cable box to the DVD/HDD unit's video in. Then connect another composite cable from the DVD/HDD video out to the TV.

This Magnavox unit can only read analog (NTSC) cable video signals without a set top box. You will not be able to record a show and then watch another with the cable box.

I hope this helps.

(I know that my cable system's box has a composite video out. So it does work with most of the Comcast boxes. Many of the manuals are available here: )

Tv picture changes and recording is unwatchable when trying to rec one of 4 local channels

It is the signal from the 4 local stations that is the problem, because you can record all others ok. Borrow another VCR and try to record them, if its the same tell the people who run the local channels that they are losing viewing figures, because their channels cannot be recorded.

How do I connect to Sharp HDTV and Comcast cable

Your dvd recorder only has rca, red white yellow inputs it wont allow you to record in HD, although you can play your comcast box any hd, regular digital through and record. Hook up the comcast box if HD through preferably HDMI if not get one from comcast. The HD box is the only box that allow HDMI, component and regular RCA and some RF out. This way you can play HD to your set but also record through RCA or RF again will not allow for HD record unless its TiVo. Hope this helps

Can't tape tv program on VCR while watching another show on digital cable.

If you set it up right per Comcast instructions:

Your VCR will record a show off of its built in tuner while you are watching another show from the cable box.

Make sure that the AB switch is set into the correct position and that you are only recording a show that that isn't digital. I believe you can only record shows up to channel 150 off the VCR tuner. Anything higher than that won't work.

If your Comcast Cable Tuner has two AV outputs in the back of it, you can skip the AB switch altogether and plug the one of the cable tuner output lines into the back of the VCR input lines. That way it can record that show you are watching on the cable tuner at that same time.

LG LRM519 DVD Recorder with new Comcast Digital box

I don't think you need a converter. All you have to do is connect the two together. If for example both have scart sockets then all you need is a scart to scart lead. When recording you simply set the recording channel to the scart socket the box is connected. So if it is on AV1 you set it as that. Then with the box on, you record the shows you want, by setting a timer to record AV1 when the show you want is on.

Record DVDs frrom Cable box DVR

Buy a recorder that records both +/-R and double layer disks.
I haven't seen a Comcast dvr but you should connect it to the svideo out port of the dvr to the svideo in of the recorder and the audio out to the audio in. If the Comcast doesn't have svideo use the video ports instead
