How do I replace a Troybilt Horse Tiller Belt Gw 9245? It appears I have to remove a lot of parts before I can get the belt off.

My Horse is about 25 years old.

    Dwain,

My tiller has one drive belt and a lever to engage the tines and wheels. It also has a lever for speed adjustment. Thanks for sending me the pdf. A repair shop told me that it could take him up to an hour to replace the belt since it takes some removal of parts.

You don't have to remove any parts. I will send you directions tomorrow when I get on my shop computer.

It has one belt, right? Does it have the lever to engage and disengage the tines or do the tines turn whenever you engage the tranmission? I have information on either kind.

I just realized that I have the manuals on pdf and will have to e-mail them to you. Dwain

I'm confused. Did you get a pdf from me? I tried to post it here but didn't think I was able to. Let me know if you still need it. I've got another way to get you the manual. Dwain

Drive belt is slipping when under load. How do you tighten the belt. thanks, Ted Troybilt Horse rear tine tiller

hi there, ive been doing a bit of head scratching over this one as i needed to check my facts. i think the belt has a automatic spring loaded adjuster so it sounds as if you need a new belt for it.
good luck

I am currently looking at buying a troybilt horse with serial # 340455. Can someone let me know what year this is?

That tiller was made sometime between 7/1/78 and 1/1/79. This is the Horse II model and is a four speed one belt tiller. The Horse I was a two speed two belt tiller. These are very good tillers if they have been reasonably taken care of.

Hi! i have older troybilt rear tine tiller and would like tires and if possible a owners manuel the only serial # i could find is 464932. do you have access to older parts for equipment such as mine?...

http://www.mtdparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/OperatorManualView?storeId=10101&catalogId=19502&langId=-1

Go to the above website and put in your model and serial number. If it is a Horse tiller just type in Horse and your serial number and you can download a copy of your operator manual. If it is the Horse model it was built between 1/1/80 and 7/1/80. i believe you have a Horse II four speed model that will just have one drive belt the older Horse I tillers were two speed with two belts.
Most any good tire shop can supply tires for your tiller or you can order them online and take then to a shop to mount for you. If your tires are not real bad they can just put tubes in them so they will hold air. Almost all parts are available through MTD who owns the Troy Bilt name now or through many sites online.

Good Luck,

Frank

What is the easyist way to change belt on older troybilt horse tiller without pulling motor

You dont need to pull the motor ... in fact if you do , that will not help you. We are talking about a genuine Troy, right? Bujilt in Troy not Cleveland.

At most, you will have to remove th reverse disk.

Take off the off the old belt(s) (mine 6 hp Horse is a older two belt drive). You must be in neutral. Pull the belt off the back of the engine pulley and down to give you slace to get it off the transmission pulley then pull it away.

It is very easy to say and a llittle harder to do but not as hard as you think, believe me. I have 2 belts and have replaced them several times.

Can i see the models from 1983 to 1985,i need a belt so i can use reverse again but i dont now my model or size. my husband died 3 years ago. if i could see some pictures from the 1980's mine has a potatoe...

Your question doesn't give enough detail to properly answer. Do you know if the tiller is a Horse model or a Pony model? Troy Bilt made both models back in the timeframe you noted. The Horse model had tires that required air to inflate. The Pony model likely had hard rubber tires in that era. The Horse models had a reverse disc, no belt. The Pony had a belt.

Once you know which model you have - look for your closest Troy Bilt dealer and see if they can track down the part for you. They might appreciate it if you could provide the serial number - which is located on the pipe connecting the tiller transmission front half to the back half, where the tines are located. It's stamped right into the metal tube on both models.

Parts list for Kohler K161T engine was mounted on a Troybilt Horse - older model. Need stator number - would like to see parts list or internet site to access it. Kohler has no spark

I have a troybilt tiller with a K161T Kohler 7 horsepowe engine. I have replaced all electrical components, spark plug, points, condenser, stater, all wiring, and cleaned magnets, but to no avail. I still have no spark. The points open and close properly, the plug is gapped correctly. Does anyone have an idea?
