Question about GE JE1860 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

No turntable I refuse to buy a new microwave until they get rid of the turntable design. I need my casserole dish to fit! My old GE is 11 years old and going strong. Perhaps a US company will see the need for a microwave with no turntable and make a LOT of money, taking market share away from other countries.

I fixed the problem with my microwave turntable motor without having to replace it. I removed the motor from the microwave and placed it in a small vise. Using a very small flat head screwdriver I was able to pry up the four tabs holding the casing together. You may need a slightly larger screwdriver after that to bend them back out of the way so you can remove the motor cover plate. Carefully take out all the plastic gears and note their position for re-assembly. You will find that the primary gear, at the bottom of the rest of the gears is attached to the motor magnet. It has a shaft that acts as a bushing passing through the center motor magnet. On the underside it is attached to a plastic washer. This is where it breaks. The motor magnet spins free of the gear/bushing/washer assembly. I used JB Weld epoxy to glue this assembly back together and it works like brand new. Note: On mine there were four indentations on each side of the motor magnet which corresponded to little ?bumps? on the underside of the gear on top and washer on the bottom. Place all the plastic gears back into the motor in the correct order, slide on the motor cover plate and use a small cold chisel with a round end and tap hammer to bend the tabs back into place. If this worked for you please let me know ? karlet@bellsouth.net

I have a GE Spacemaker II microwave: JEM25GY that died. It seems less expensive to replace rather than fix. Power works; it doesn't heat. New models all apparently have turntables; mine didn't and I...

YOU CAN TRY REMOVING THE GLASS TRAY AND TURNTABLE AND REPLACING IT WITH YOUR OLD GLASS TRAY (IF YOU HAD ONE) OR JUST ANY GLASS MICROWAVE TRAY. WITHOUT THE TURNTABLE, I CAN'T SEE HOW IT CAN ROTATE.

Have GE JVM2050 over the range microwave, which stopped heating food and water since this morning. All other functions including light, key pad, clock, turntable work normal. The magnetron sound also

if everything works except the heating, it is most likely the mag tube is on its way out.........that is the most common reason for it not too cook.......since the microwave is a GE and it is 3.5 years old, i would say you are better off buying a new microwave, the mag tube starts at around $70.00 and up + the labor it costs too have a service person put it in........around another $60.00

My turntable stopped running

If you didn't buy the turntable motor then I assume you purchased the coupler ( white plastic/nylon piece that fits into the turntable motor collar and rotates the platen? Is that what you purchased?

I own a Advantium 120 Oven. I love my microwave however there are times that I need to stop the turntable in order to reheat or cook something in a casserole dish. How can the turntable be turned off?

I guess my problem cannot be fixed. I was told that my microwave turntable is automatic and cannot be turned off, therefore, if you have a 9 1/2 x 11 dish and need to reheat something it cannot go in the microwave because it does not fit .

Does the turntable rotate? If everything but this works (except no heat), you probably have a bad door switch. Here's a discussion of what's involved in replacing it: http://www.fixya.com/support/t267796-kenmore_microwave_hood_combination_over

If the turntable does rotate, I'd suspect a more significant failure, such as the transformer, capacitor, or magnetron. If it's any of these, it's time to replace the unit.
