Question about Washing Machines
Door to Amana front load washer stuck in locked and delayed position
Possibly some foreign object has worked it's way down into the drain pump, preventing the washer from draining. all the way. (If the washer doesn't drain properly, the door will remain locked).
One way is to take the drain hose out of the wall connection, lower it to floor level & allow it to gravity drain. (Be sure to catch the water in a pan or something). Once the washer has drained, the lid should open.
If this fixed the problem, the pump still has something in it. You will need to remove the back of the washer and check to see what's blocking the discharge pump.
Remove the back of the washer, remove the hose running to the drain pump, remove the pump itself & remove and debris clogging the pump.
Otherwise a service call runs somewhere between $100 - $175.

This worked for me. I turned off the washer and hit the area on the washer directly to the right of the door handle (not hard enough to break something or cause a dent). It popped right open.

When this happened to our front loader washing machine, we had to unplug the appliance, wait, then replug it to reset and unlock the door.

To get the front off. (All screws look to be #2 Phillips Screws)
1. You have to unscrew (2) phillips screws from the back that holds the top on.
2. Slide the top off. (slide towards the back)
3. Then where the control panel is there is about 4-6 screws holding that plastic piece on, take those out this will allow you to pull the control panel up and out of the way.
4. At this point you can unscrew the 4-6 screws in the door area that holds the front of the washer on, once you unscrew those screws there is a tab that you have to lift the front over to pull the front off. This will allow you access to the locking mechanism.
5. There are only 2 screws holding te locking mechanism on.

SOURCE: door won't close/lock
Just had the same issue. The latch, which rotates up and forward, is spring-loaded towards the rear. If 'tripped' to closed position, it cannot rotate back down until it's carrier/hinge slides slightly forward. I bent a sturdy wire into a long 'U', then bent both ends down (~3/8in) and slightly outward to hook over the latch-hinges and pull both sides gently (its plastic) forward, while rotating the latch downward with a small screwdriver. be careful to keep what appears to be a brown plastic button raised, if it pops down from above the latch. Yes, having 4 hands would help, but the 'U' wire can pull from behind the two outer edges with one finger. Once the latch rotates down, release tension on the 'U' wire and extricate it - problem solved.
