SOURCE: Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan At Slow Speed

I recently replaced my hampton bay fan for the same reason (slow at all speeds) and discovered scorched and melted capacitors and wiring inside the fan. My suggestion is to stop using fan and replace immediately.

Read this on another thread - apparently the solution came from HB's tech support.
Turn the fan speed to HI and then select Reverse.  You should hear a "click" and see the fan reverse direction.  It seems that the reversing relay only works when the fan speed is set to HI.
Good Luck!!

SOURCE: reversing direction on remote controlled fan

There is no switch. Put the fan on high then hit the reverse button. Your fan should stop, reverse and you'll bet all set.

Hunter fan remote bypass

This fan uses a "ballast" to run the fan. The ballast (part #272) probably contains wiring for multiple speeds. Here is a manual that discusses the wiring- http://www.hunterfan.com/SupportDocuments/OwnersManuals/42700.pdf.
To use a wall mounted fan dimmer, you need to identify the high speed wires and connect them to the dimmer switch. This method will bypass the other speed windings and is not as power efficient.

there is a starter solenoid inside it works the speed setting. controls speed 1-2-3. 4 it bypasses it. in side the fan you will see a black box with c66 somthing that will need to be changed as that is the part that controls the speed.

Fan which blows heat doesn't work when toggle at dash board is moved to high.

When your fan switch is placed in the high position, it feeds directly to the fan motor and bypasses the blower motor relay. If the fan is operating on speed 1-3, then you have one of two things wrong, either you have a blown fuse, or the fan selector switch is faulty on the high setting.

I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler and the heater fan stopped working for all the fan speeds. The fuses are fine. How do you know if it is the blower resistor or the blower motor?

If you bypass the resistor pack and connect the motor directly to the fused 12v supply then the fan should run at maximum speed. If so, it's the resistor pack that's blown: a very common fault on a huge number of makes and models.

On my 91 nissan pickup the fan switch works on 1 2 3 but shuts off on 4is there a way to bypass the switch?

Your problem is the reverse of the typical one; no slow speeds, only maximum speed available.
Without a diagram of the electrical system I can't say conclusively what has failed but I suspect the highest speed may use relay contacts to bypass the stepped resistor that sets the lower speeds and this relay may have failed. This relay is probably located with the fuses and if marked, swap it with another of the same part number (there are often duplicate relays of the same PNs) and, without starting the engine, turn the ignition on and try the fan control to see if it now operates as it should.

MY CHILD'S BALLON STRING GOT CAUGHT IN MY ALOHA FAN, I TOOK THE STRING OUT BUT NOW IT WILL NOT COME ON, HELP PLEASE!

it probably slowed or stalled the motor down so far that if its variable speed it burned out the speed control triac in the speed control, you need to access the speed control board and find the problem, otherwise if the motor isn't harmed too bad, direct wire(bypass) speed control and run on high

Hampton Bay ceiling fan - will not reverse

It sounds like the direction switch has a broken connection on the "reverse" side.  Should be an easy fix (but you might need a soldering iron).
