SOURCE: problem my mac and mini dv deck when they are connected with dv ports

Hello, the mini dv is the port that carries images and video to a television for example, or a computer, but will not help to transfer data to a computer. the firewire port does transfer data to the computer though, this is the reason why it is ackowledged as an external hard drive when you plug it this way. The best is to plug both, this will give you the opportunity to watch on your desktop, and to transfer data

SOURCE: camcorder wont work with mac os x

Your camera will not work with Mac period. It is a digital camera but is outputting an analog signal. Been there and done that with a TRV camera myself. There are lots of cameras that will work with your G5 Mac. I am now using a Sanyo VPC-HD 100 with my Intel iMac and it works great. Click the link for some supported cameras. This is not all of them. http://support.apple.com/kb/TA20587

SOURCE: iMovie and Canon ZR500 no image

I have a slightly different but related model of Canon camera. I have found that if you erroneously power it on in "camera" mode instead of "playback" mode, you get the symptoms you describe: you can control the camera with iMovie, but you can't get any video out of it. Make sure you have the power switch in "playback" position -- it's an easy mistake to make.

Hello, I want to download video clips from my Optura 50 tape onto my mac computer, and I have various adobe software applications available like final cut pro

You will require a firewire cable to connect to the Mac. Usually a 4 to 6 pin cable, the newer Macs use a 9 pin version.
iMovie will do the job as will Final Cut.

You are really really close, be sure the camera is plugged in and turned on on preview mode and then launch ( Open ) the iMovie application on your Mac, the iMovie application will recognize the camera and probably prompt you right away if you want to import video from the camera.
There you go, it's that easy...
